Re: 55 clipper wiper with washer and coordinator

Thanks to all for the info. Yes I have seen the Wiperman Ficken on the net. As an old ASE master tech I prefer to know the operation of each system then make repairs or decide on replacement or service. It is very interesting that the wiper systems can and have been fairly intricate systems through the years. My questions were:Are the Packard wipers supposed to "park" at bottom of the windshield no matter when in the cycle the switch is turned to the off pos. How does the coordinator affect the washer operation and though I am aware of the operation of the aux vacuum pump, I need more info on the check valve behind the carb and the " balancing valve" on the fire wall( see fig 13 pg 6 accessories sec of svc man.) Is this just a tee? I was able to get some info from the pattent description i found on .gov if anyone is interested I can maybe post a link to it as I am not sure I can repost the text without lic. seems the coordinator is a silicone gel filled dashpot solenoid supposed to continue to apply vacuum to operate the wiper motor for a "timed" 3 0r 4 swipes after the washer is engaged and is adj thru a screw and orafice to slow the silicone movement there by slowing the solenoids return. I have experienc with wax filled dashpots to slow choke movement on 80s carbs used by some japanese cars. I did notice a "one way" valve inside the Packard wiper motor which the working wiper motor does not have. Any thoughts?

I purchased 4 wide whites from coker for the 750-15s on the clipper custom. I was not assured of the "applied" white wall on the dback description. I am very satisfied with them. Go with radials. Spend the time to examine, clean and prep the rims. I would like to hear the problems others had with the cokers. The only issue I has was they were supposed to be made in USA. I did not order the least expensive. These were the mid level and were quite a few dollars but they look and ride beautifully at low and hwy speeds. I was going to call coker and bring up the made in mexico issue but never did.I can take a pic on the sticker if u want as i still have 1 on the wall of the garage

If you part it out i am interested in 2 hubcaps to replace ones with sm dents, 2 body side mouldings and the rear seat upholstery if it is dk gr with lt star panels. these would need to be in better cond than what i have. im on L I so shipping wouldnt be too bad. sorry you are not going to finish the project but the guys like us with the exp and knowledge are getting older and dont have the physical ability to tackle these any more while the young do not have the desire to get "down + dirty. it will be considerable work to part it out but not nearly as much as the restore. good luck.

I put a pertronix setup in the 55 clipper over 3 years ago. When i did it i called their tech line and told them i had the delco distr and saw the listing on the website for my car but I wanted to ensure their product would work with my +ground syst. He said they make both + and - ground and he sent the correct one. Be sure they know you retro fit to - grd or you may have burnt out the + grd unit. As a side note I used the factory coil and the car ran great, started great for 6 days then cut out and wouldnt start. After insp I found the hotter spark burned the old rotor where the spring term was swaged to the brass pointer on the top cnter of the rotor. I changed the rotor for new and shes run great since. I put a sm jumper from 1 side of the ballast res to the other and left all other parts orig! Its still running on the orig wires and plugs! If your coil primary has pwr and you remove the coil hi ten wire from the center of the dist and no spk whn crank- ck the coil wire and rotor for continuity. If ok- pertronix must be bad.
