Interested if starter repair cures sluggishness, those are gear reduction starters that turn very slowly. Just worked on a 48 356, set carb to Carter specs, it starts every time hot or cold in 3/4 turn. If yours doesn't then carb may need adj

There is an easy fix in the service letter, can be done with trans in car. Someone here can find it for you. You may have a broken pin that holds the retracting spring for the parking pawl, that can be checked and fixed without removing the trans

29-36 valves are same. Hollander interchange manual lists 30-31 384 heads as interchangable. HC stands for high compression, if it's been cut it could cause valve interference

Carb "completely" blocked, really not possible. Se my post #4, buy a service manual with a diagnostic section. Your problem could be anything from fouled plugs to bad gas in the tank

My point was that I KNOW the roof treatment was added after it left the factory ( we own a 37 Su 8 Derham) and that the hubcaps were most likely changed afterwards.

There are 2 oft-mentioned explanation for wrong parts being on a car. First that they used leftover parts from the previous year, second that someone at the factory "found" some parts lying around and put them on a car. If you know how car manufacturing works you'd know that both are ridiculous. IF they do use parts from a previous year, such as on the early '51 model 200 fuel pumps, it is noted in the parts book.

This is a car built for a Packard family member so all bets are off, just as the roof treatment is not the way it left E Grand Blvd the hubcaps may not be either. Perhaps it was "special order" on request from the family or after the car was built someone wanted them switched.

Get a good service manual with a diagnostic section applicable to all cars, a Packard is not different. I could list 50 or 75 things to cause this problem and you may go broke trying to figure it out, I use books and brains, suggest you do the same.

There are many things in both the fuel and spark system that could cause this. get a good service manual and follow the diagnostic procedures, sometimes it;'s a simple as something stuck under the gas pedal. it could also be something you already replaced like a condenser or point not adjusted correctly

The screws go into a metal cast part of the carb, replacing the bakelite cover will not solve the stripped holes in the cast metal part. You will need to fix or replace the cast part
