HH56 thank you so much for this brake down it definitely shines a light on a few things and im still lost on some others lol.
I definitely have a big problem with that cable and I'm thinking the whole linkage setup. My cable is not attached to the starter at all and I can move the linkage around a lot by hand.
I tried looking it up but I couldn't find what the switch that's on the gear shaft is called anyone know?

Here's a photo of what I'm talking about

thanks OZ,

I wanted to let you know that my car is in the registry twice one from a previous owner that has a lot of wrong info mainly the model number so you might want to remove that one.

From what I can see is the shift linkage is hitting the cable going into the diaphragm. 1st and 3rd shifts don't feel like they go all the way down and can see the linkage hitting the cable when shifting it.
also it looks like the shift linkage is not mounted correctly and moves around a lot it looks like it just swings around on one bolt. Anybody know if this is correct or am I missing something.

Back to the cable I see that it goes into the diaphram and then goes around a pulley and the other end isn't attached to anything. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

Hello everybody!! I'm new to everything Packard, I've built my fare share of hot rods and muscle cars but feel in love with this Packard.
I just recently pick up a 1948 super 8 club sedan the majority of the car seems to be original and in pretty good shape for being almost 70 but it does have a couple serious modifications to it that are not worth bringing it back to original so I'm going to stay with it and go resto mod/ ratrod with.
The most serious mod done is someone before me decided it needed lambo doors, it definitely adds a wow factor LOL. Also they changed the hood to lift forward instead of to the side, that one isn't so bad and looks good. But the doors I actually want to change but they did a lot of cutting and fab work to do the conversion it'll be way to hard to change back so I was thinking maybe going suicide door with it but will see.
Anyways I'm happy to be a part of the community and hope to learn a lot so any tips and tricks will definitely help!

Rob

Question about elecromatic option

Hi new here and to Packard's I just picked up a 48 super eight 2 door and I'm in love with.
It has the elecromatic trans option init but not working and I think it's part of my shifter problems, my question is can all the components of the option be removed and it work just like a normal trans or is there anything I have to do to it after removing it all?
Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated

Thanks,
Rob
