I think you may be overthinking the converter as much of the info you quoted is applicable to performance and race applications. Are you boosting the hp on the packard engine or will it stay stock? Are you racing the car? If street driving the packard engines idle so low that you will bo ok with a very low stall converter and the weight of the vehicle has just as much to do with stall . You will be more comfortable and see better fuel mileage with a lower stall. Truth be told. Any converter in a v8 stock application from a heavy car will do. I advise you to read this info on tv cable geometry and set up/ adj as it is very important for longevity of this trans on a retrofit app.

Yes. The weak secondary return spring and poss misalignment of the secondary throttle blades (if they were removed at rebuild)will contribute to the blades not seating at idle. If you have no experience adj the base idle and mixture with a vacuum gage further discussions may be beyond the scope of DIY repairs. There is a detailed adj procedure for all linkages in the svc manual which must be performed during the rebuild before any on car adj. are you running an electric fuel pump or just the mechanical? Do you have the proper 4gc for this application? If so it should have the removable plugs in the bowls. Are you sure the floats are set properly and not sticking? Are the needle and seats updated to disc and seat or original?

There are many issues with the 4GC some of which are design issues known by the manufacturers back then which have stop gap remidies at best. Some of these issues are amplified by the 352 intake design . The duals used may be less affected due to the carbs not sitting directly over the exhaust cross over. I have a bulletin on heat related issues still being battled by stop gap remidies nine year after it use on the 352. I also feel raw fuel and fuel vapors may be causing oil dilution on the engines and washdown and may excelerate wear and lifter noise. Be careful with the floats and watch for flooding.
I replaced one on a 352. The car ran flawlessly for years - oil clean- no lifter tap. No rich smell- no fuel smell- no need for elec fuel pump. The car could sit for 4-5 or more weeks and start right up with 2 pumps.
Of course i also had a hotter spark with the pertronics and had disabled the crossover in the intake as it was of no use with our planned usage. If you are in a hot weather climate and or are not using as a daily driver in cold ambient temps I would recc the same.

as someone who drove a car with auto torsion level it was a great ride and never failed. Sorry some are having trouble getting them operational or finding skilled professionals to work on them but this is more due to the financial aspect of paying for those skills or the tech wanting to tie up a lift while the repair is completed. unfortunate the electrical control is under the car as well next to the torsion motor. this certainly makes it hard to service for the DIY er at home and seems to be an issue for cars driven as daily drivers in the elements. Fine for the weekend cruiser though.

You say it is not charging consistantly. Maybe i missed another thread where you mention more details. Your 49 is a six volt system correct. What is the reading on the volt meter connected to the battery at idle- at 1500 rev? Lights on etc. perhaps you have a bad battery? Bad connections? Bad ammeter or loose connections or corrosion. What is the voltage with her cranking over?

I am not aware of the Predictor incident. Did i miss the thread? What happened? Has anyone else had damage when transporting to an auction or other venue?

Thanks Dave. Thats what I thought. In neutral , p brake set , batt disc. And you were right - tp did not seem to add interest/value. Someone is getting a great car way under the value. I guess it is no member here winning the bid? I will direct them here if they are restoring back to stock and give them pix etc. or poss it will be customized-who knows.

What is the protocol for advising a new owner or a car carrier if any for the handling of a 55 torsion level ultramatic equipped car? Are we to assume all transporters are aware and new owners are educated? Does a car get strapped by the tires nowdays or are they strappind the bodt and wratcheting on the chassis which would put the torsion inder stress? What and what position for the gear shift select handle during freight?
Happy Easter and thanks to all.
