Are core plugs and freeze plugs the same part with two different names? 1949 288

this may sound stupid, but did you run a compression test ? just because it was rebuilt doesn,t mean the valve seats were faced correctly. also'did you check the valve clearances? my 1949 288 was running hot because the valve clearances were too small.Try .007 intake and .010 exhaust. Adjusting the valves is a big job because you must remove both manifolds.Separate them and remove one at a time . much easier that way.

Anyone under 40 gives you a blank stare when you say"its a Packard". I love these cars because even the less ornate and less expensive post war models exhibit exceptional quality and engineering.I do all my own work and enjoy working on these cars a great deal.

does anyone have a front door courtesy light(entire unit) that they would like to sell?

I have the dashboard removed from my 1949 deluxe cruising sedan.It appears that there are two heavy gage tabs,one on either end of the instrument cluster. it looks like the only way to remove the instrument cluster is to bend those tabs back. Hate to use that much force,but I cant see another way.Please help if you know a better way to separate the two components. THX

Removing the dash is not the two headed monster that I thought it would be. Remove windshield trim and seven large screws. Then a nut on either side.1949 deluxe touring sedan.

This 1949 sedan is making a monkey out of me.I feel so stupid coming here over and over for help. Im trying to remove the instrument cluster.Ive got it to where it will wiggle slightly but I cant get it off.Any advice would be a big help.Thx BEAR
