Looks like the filler neck on the Auto Cuty Classic one needs some work , look in the link to old thread below. Do you know if this has been worked out?

Ya I think I am going to go the new route, I called Kanter they can get me a new tank for $500 plus $60 for shipping and that does not include the filler neck that is just the tank. The Auto City Classic one is looking like a pretty good deal right now! That one comes with neck and vent tube right?

GAS TANK QUESTION

The last owner only rinsed out the gas tank swashing around nuts and bolts, he put a inline fuel filter in under the car next to the tank and it is filled with rust dust/sludge. So now I want to get the gas tank in order before I rebuild the carb.

I just spoke with a "Gas Tank Renu" company close to me in Los Angeles but it will cost $950 bucks for the whole process. (soak, sand blast, coat, bake)
Just to get it deep cleaned will cost $375. I will check a few local radiator shops to see if they are any different for a good cleaning. Just wanted to see what anyone else has done. Thanks

I hope this isn't the case but when I felt around tv he heat riser section when the car was idling leak leak was really big.

I already got my new exhaust manifold seal set. What side of gasket goes against the manifold? The Raised dimple side or flat side? Same question for the black heat riser gasket. Thanks for the help!

Hey guys, thanks for all the input for the radio. This one is the one that was in the trunk, is it the original? Once I get the original in and the Clipper one out I will for sure get it to someone that needs a original.

This weekend I am hoping to do a couple things let me know if you have any tips

1.
Rebuild carb (rochester 4 jet 7007230)
I got my rebuild kit yesterday)

2.
Seal up my exhaust leak, I found a good leak at the manifold heat valve connection. My new gaskets should be here today.

I'm amazed at how good the interior is. The seats, headliner, and door panels are exceptional.

This was the driving factor for me to buy the car. Right when I seen the interior I was pretty much sold!

Quote:
I also picked up a Motors manual of Ebay that covers my year, and the information in there was very helpful in setting the carb back up when I rebuilt it.

[color=0033FF]I just printed, hole punched and put in a binder the manual and parts book for 55's. I am all set now the carb rebuild kit should be here this week sometime.

Classic Exhaust makes complete replacement systems for our cars.

Thanks for the tip

Quote:
Alternatively you could have an exhaust shop look at what you have now and see if they can patch up what you have.

If I cant get this fixed myself this will be my next option. I will go new once I get all the bugs worked out.

Quote:
If you can get the car on jack stands, I would drain the trans fluid first, then drop the pan and inspect/clean it out. You'll need a new gasket when you reinstall. Olson's gaskets is a good place

Ok, Olsons got it, I was wondering about good gaskets. From reading I was going to refill with B&M Trick Shift.

BTW, this thread would be best located in the Project Blogs area of the forum. It'll get lost in the V-8 section. Maybe BigKev can move it?

That would be awesome! What do you think big Kev?

Quote:
What I do see is that your radio is not the original. Somebody has swapped it out. What you have here is a rare Clipper signal-seeking radio, not a senior Packard radio.

Ya the last owner said he changed it out, there is another radio in the trunk, I will take a picture of and post it later today. The radio does not work, any recommendations for a good repair guy?

Quote:
I would swap it out for the correct unit and let someone with a Clipper have a chance at this rare optional radio head.

I will definitely do this once I get a original in there. I hope the one in the trunk is the original.

Thanks for all of your guys input!

Hey guys I got my Packard last night! Thank god I was having a birthday party at my house when it showed up. She was at the top of the car carrier like you see in the pic and I ended up having to back it off from up there while Ed the truck driver and Mike my uncle pushed me down. She would start but not idle so we had to manually get her down. Luckily I live in a hilly area, I just used the hill to glide down my street after I got to the driveway I had 6 men in the family push me into its resting spot. Luckily I got to take a real good look at the under sidev while it was on the carrier, man she is pretty damn clean of rust of course some surface stuff but nothing serious. It looked like there is a coating on the underside. I messed with the carb today and turned the idle screw almost all the way in, she will start and idle now but the accelerator pump is shot, if I hit the gas pedal it dies out I have to slowly ease into it. The only thing I am pretty bummed about is the cracked windshield and drivers side window glass. I never asked if there were cracks in the glass I didn't see anything in the pics that looked like there was a crack, oh well lesson learned. Heres my plan of attack...

1. Rebuild Rochester 4 jet carb and tune. I have never rebuilt or tuned a car carb only 70's Harleys. Any tips would be awesome!

2. Fix exaust leak. There is no exaust coming out of the left tail pipe. I am pretty sure it is where it connects to header that is leaking. Any tips?

3. Clean out Tranny and add new fluid. Any tips?

This is my biggest concern, bad floor boards. He said everything was good but you never know....Thanks for the info!
