Torn accelerator pump:
Is it a leather cup on the accelerator pump or a rubber type cup???

IF it is leather then then it is probably OLD STOCK from at least 40 years ago, or more like 50 - 70 years ago and the leather has deteriorated.

Use a MULTI grade oil such as 10w-30 or 10w-40.

The straight weight oils such as just sae 30 or sae 40 will cause thecarbon build up.

Also change brands of gasoline. Gas varies from region to region of the US. But here in mid-Tn i used Marathon almost exclusively for several years 2004 - 20012. I had alot of exhaust valve STEm carbon in an 88 2.0 ranger. Fought it for 4 or 5 years.

I've switched to Shell gasoline. PROBEM SOLVED!!!

Also noticed other engines would give some minor problems.

So try the detergent 10w-30 or 40 and switch gasolines to maybe Shell.

So how much trouble would it be to modify the frame of the saw to accomodate the standard size blade???? I mean i don't know. But sit back and look at the saw to see if modifyng it for the standard blade might be easy enuf to do.

Raise engine IDLE speed 200 rpm.
That should solve the problem.

Also advance timing or at least check timing at idle speed.

Original factory specs (OF ANY ENGINE MADE AT ANY TIME BY ANY MFG'ER) usualy indicate a rather slow idle speed than what is practicle for REAL WORLD operation.

Raise idle speed to at least 500 rpm. ESPECIALY if it has AC.

If your current saw is satisfactory for your needs then i would seriously look at repairing the saw u have now.

U mentioned something about a "nonstandard blade". Meaning what??? That it is expensive or difficult to find or what????

NOTE that there is a Butt Welder used for making band saw blades. They are rather small welding units special for butt weldding band saw blaades. THEN an annealer for the butt welded area of the blade. Probably not real expensive so u can make your own blades if necessary.

If it is bearings that are baad then it is most likely because the bearings are too small (or just barley large enuf) for the application load. This is typical of "cheap equipment". So even if buying a "quality brand name" bearing at a higher price mite not work much better than just a cheap bearing. I guess i depends on the price differeential between the brand name bearing and el-cheapo made in chinaa-rica bearing.

It's a band saw that sets in the garage. Not a car that could leave u stranded in the middle of the mojave desert 300 miles from home.

So 'cutting corners' on cost is often worth the strategy for equipment of non-critical operation.
