Any chance you might have a door latch( one on the jamb) for 39 Paxkard Six.
Also looking for the short pieces of chrome over the cowl vent and in front of it.
If you have any of these call or text me at 814 248-9140. with price.....or let me know if you have any hints where I might find them.

Thanks
RJ Russell

Leeedy is absolutely correct. Cars of the 50’s and early 60’s did not have seat latches or much of anything else to promote passenger safety. Few offered seatbelts. They came with a single master cylinder brake system that offered no brakes if you popped a brake line or wheel cylinder...and then Packard threw in the BYV that can leave you without brakes with no notice.
The steering columns did not collapse and my 55 Eldorado has a spike in the center of the steering wheel to pierce your chest.
These are not safe cars by today’s standards even if carefully maintained. The engineering is awful .....but they sure are fun.

Re: stainless and chrome restoration

My suggestion is to grab a copy of Hemming’s Motor News and look at the ads under service. There are any number of companies listed who do chrome and stainless restoration.
As to cost, it has been my experience that chrome work is expensive but that may be due to environmental regulations in this country. I believe that Bumper Boyz and perhaps Tucson Packard have their plating done in Mexico. Some local shops outsource their bumpers to some outfit in Montana.
I have never seen any method to the prices quoted for doing the work based on any schedule....just sort of numbers pulled from the air.
Hope this helps.

Bolt spacing , width and back space - 39 Paxkard six

I am thinking of putting different rims on the 39.
Have been looking for artillery wheel or aftermarket wires that can be painted.

Does anyone know offhand what the bolt spacing and back space of the original 17” wheel would be .
Would rim from something like my 55 Caribbean have same bolt spacing?

The original rims were swapped for 15” rims.

Check the parts book. If the switch for your car is the same as the 1955 400/ Caribbean, I am sure I have one around somewhere that I will send you . Not sure how the postal service will handle a small package to Australia’ but I am sure it has been done before.
If the part is different..Mike Delinski is a great source.
Stay safe and let me know.

1939 Packard six convertible coupe— metal clad tacking strip

Working on the car today and discovered the rear tacking strip for the convertible top was encased in a metal housing that attaches to a channel with rivets .
The metal is badly rusted but area under itt is solid.
Does anyone offer this type of tacking strip or is it necessary to retrofit typical tacking strips?
Any info will be appreciated.
thanks

1939 six....master cylinder replacement and other dumb questions

The brakes on the 39 with all lines, wheel cylinders and shoes was done by prior owner. Then the car sat for several decades. I will go back over the system but the master is leaking. Has anyone out there switched to dual master cylinder . Seems possible...unlike the Caribbean.
Any hints welcome.
Second minor issue. I believe the firewall would have originally been done in flat black but I see shots of cars with firewall done to match the body color. If you do the second option would you also paint inner fenders and inside hood the body color?
I am dying the existing vinyl seats( will redo door panels) with product from Rub n restore. Will advise how well it works. The supplier did a test and it looks great.
