After reading the post on the CLC yesterday I tried finding details.. I did find a YouTube video from the auction house that was brief and showed a Caribbean or two. I can't find it now (last night it was after a couple glasses of Pinot). Should be some screaming deals.. shame, I hate to speak ill of the auction house but looking like Fisher Price My First Auto Auction.

There is a thread on the Cadillac LaSalle Club forum on this. Collar City Auctions is handling. So far links do not work and no pictures. Supposed to start on the 5th and run until the 22nd. You would think they'd get some pictures going. Really hope some good pictures are taken.. really curious... would love to bid too but then I'd get divorced most likely.

If you've never cut laminated safety glass before, take it to someone who has. I use to manage a production line making commercial safety glass - it takes patience and skill. Old lami becomes brittle too. It will not be tempered, no windshield glass is tempered. If you attempt to cut tempered glass it will explode. Side lites are tempered so if impacted they crack into pieces that have no sharp edges of note to cut you. Modern windshields are heat-strengthened laminated (a mezzanine between annealed and tempered). If a windshield were tempered and struck on a roadway it would explode and come inward. If it were tempered and laminated it would become unclear and you could not see. Heat-strengthened is the best of both worlds. In 1953, it's probably closer to annealed and that would make it easier to cut.

I've used that product on my Audi for a hood pad and it worked fine, though I did have it off the car and let gravity work with me... probably not an option for your timeline.
How is it failing? Is adhesive left on the underside of the hood? i.e. you didn't apply right: too much, too little, didn't wait until is was tacky before application. Or is it pulling clean from the hood? i.e. you have oily residue on the underside. If you ran the car awhile without I can see how some oily vapors ended up there and require a good cleaning. I think 3M also makes a surface prep. Good luck! Mike

Hate to Monday morning QB your shipper.. sure they have been doing this many times but, I'm not a fan of how it was done. Looks like it was bolted to the crate on the bottom and vertical wall without any rubber or buffer under the mounting to allow for flex (and getting tossed around the truck in-transit). It also assumes the box was built in-plane with the mounting surfaces. If it were my part, I would probably line the bottom and sides with a few layers of cardboard and then wrap the unit tightly with many layers of bubble wrap and then pack any voids with additional bubble wrap (to the point someone has to push down on the lid. I've shipped many motors and gearboxes in an industrial setting in a similar manner to your shipper but only bolted on the bottom and never with an irreplaceable cast part. Good luck getting resolution on that...

One of the '48s in the package deal has the rare and short lived gray woodgrain. It would be nice if someone saved it.. but probably not gonna happen.

Maybe it's not the best organization to do this... maybe the motivation is flawed. However, IMHO it's better than "National Collector Car Crushing Day." It's somewhat refreshing to see a Democrat from my state co-sponsor the bill, perhaps there is some hope there are centrists still out there.

In all honesty, I don't worry about young people not being interested in these cars. On Sunday I was working on my garage while the young Amazon driver stopped in asked about my cars. He was intrigued and thought they were awesome. I have a twenty something analyst that works for me and asked about the garage I was building and what it was for. I sent him some pics and history of them and again, nothing but interest and questions. One only has to see some of the programming on HGTV and the like to see that there are some young people with interest in preserving history. On the flip side, when visiting my in-laws over Memorial Day weekend I was floored with some of the things my twelve year old twin niece and nephew were saying. There is some serious brainwashing going on in school and social media. This is a concern. For those of you who watch the markets closely... lumber prices (futures market) are falling hard, real hard. Pain train is coming to town... my suspicion is that concerns of Americans will be shifting in the near future to things that really matter.

I feel bad for those of you that have to drive your cars in these cities however, I hate driving my modern day car in the city and planning on more work from home post COVID (three plus days a week). One of the reasons I picked my rural home was an endless supply of backroads. Sorry but, let the echo chamber be the echo chamber. A few years ago there was a special on PBS highlighting Paris, I told my wife to take it in.
