But from my point of view, the monroe is the correct way
to go, because it is the way the Packard lower mount is designed.
and also because I'm Lazy.

has nearly the same specs as the KYB

and it has the bar at the bottom with the 2 bolt support..

why do any extra work

Well the Monroe Matic 5801 work fine...
the ones that are on the car, came with the car when I bought it
back in the 80's...

guess I could just make a plate drill 3 holes and there I go..

OK, I must be missing something.
the x-ref page shows a KYB Kg4503 for the front shocks on a 55 Packard.
Did they change for 56, as my current shock has a 2 bolt bottom support
and a single stud for the top.

In fact everywhere on the net I searched they all listed a dual
stud (top & bottom)

My current Monroe Matic, part number is 5801

Hey that's all I could think of

Now that I've got the rear lights fixed and know how to get the
tail light assembly out, I noticed there is rubber under each of the back
assemblies. Did this rubber also carry across the back pan extension?
I notice stables in the sheet metal

Ok, thanks to all who have had input to my many
questions.. Back just after I bought my 56
I did as much research as possible, without the
aid of a computer, in those days.
I've had the car sitting in the garage since
2004, and probably longer that's just the last
sticker on the plate.
you know how life is, other things get in the way

So I had asked about getting the tail light assembly
out of the car.
I did this today.
There are 3 bolts that need to be loosened.
2 hold the end section and the last with is
up high is loosened and you can been the end section
down. Being somewhat dumb.. I forgot that the
rear bumper is in 3 pieces or if you like sections.
On my car the left tail light not only has the
4 studs but 2 screws from the front of the housing.
up on top.. on my left housing there is the square
punch out for a (head light style insert) on the outside
edge, but the inside had just a threaded hole.
The right side had 2 insert style. hope you can
follow my terminology..
I spent the morning rewiring the back lights and
radio anntena.
Next is bleeding the brakes...
As you all know the location of the M\C really sucks
and I am sure many of you have figured out different
ways of getting around this problem. I am doing
a remote reservoir using a M\C from the back of a
motorcycle.. about 4oz. mounted high on the fire wall
then I'm making a new top plate for the Packard
M\C. I'll drill a hole in insert a fitting that will
except a hose connection, and run a clear "plastic"
from the remote to the M\C..

It's funny but when I did a google search, not one specific
vendo came up. I know they are out there, but I hate pulling teeth
from alligator

On the subject of Rochester 4GC gasket set,
I checked at least 6 vendors, Mikes, Chicago Carb, SD in Fl,
Echlin (NAPA) Carburetor Factory etc:
Prices from $35 to 70.
Chicago and Daytona parts, use the same part number!
Mikes I think from there picture is the most complete.
They got a little upset when I said their kit was expensive, hahaha
It's just the penny pincher in me...
