Re: 56 V8 starting problems

After my 55 Clipper sits for awhile, about a week, it has to crank forever before stating. I have had the gas tank cleaned and resealed, replaced the fuel lines, including the rubber hose, had the carb rebuilt, rebuit the fuel pump, cleaned and check out the filter, but it still is hard starting. New points, plugs and condensor. Timing is right on. After it starts, it runs great with no more problems until it sits awhile. I attribute the problem to modern gas. I hear it evaporates.

I contacted the seller through e-bay and asked him about the dual carbs. He responded via e-mail that they were not present. I believe there is a method by which you can see what questions have been asked about items up for bid.

The seller states that it does not have the dual carb setup.

It seems the single four is on the 400 that goes as part of the deal. No intake on the Caribbean. I was thinking maybe the dual set up was removed for safe keeping.

Black 55 Caribbean on e-bay today. Looks like it needs everything. Wonder if it has the dual carb setup. Any guesses as to what it will go for?

From what I hear we will have the 2015 meet. We had the 50th Anniversary of the Packard Club in 2003 which was good because the club was founded here and one of the founders is still in the area.

Thanks for the offer Ross. If I were a little closer to you, I'd take you up on the offer. I'm about 30 miles east of San Francisco.

The brake switch checked out. I am leaning towards the rubber bushings. Is there a write up some where on replacing these. Ross, how long did it take and difficulty?
For some reason, messing with the TL scares the .... out of me.

When I had the front end rebuilt, I had to replace the passenger side upper a-arm. It was cracked at one of the inner bushings. I am using a three prong brake switch. I may be wrong, but doesn't the switch cut out the torsion leveler when the brakes are applied? The brake lights function normally. But what you are trying to get through my thick skull is that is the third position that is bad.
