The front fenders, hood and front lower bumper are back from the Paint shop:

The final cost was nearly $5,000. The increase from the original estimate was because they wanted to final finish all the sheet metal and I agreed. The paint and body work is essentially flawless. I have to take it back after it is completely assembled and running for final cut and buff of the clearcoat.

No, it's definitely Panther. Here's another slightly different view:

The slight change in the "e" from the original is due to the limitations of the water jet process (mostly stream width).

The "Panther" rear fender script plates are done and attached. Here's a picture of an original one:

I had two large ones custom made out of 1/4in aluminum by Las Vegas Water Jet company. We then smoothed them out to remove the water jet marks, drilled & tapped them for 3 #6-32 screws and painted them Satin Black with a final paint of Matte Clear enamel. Here's the passenger-side one attached:

BTW, how is your brake system holding up? Don't you have the single diaphragm booster?

No problems in almost 15 years. And yes, I have the single diaphragm booster.

I keep thinking that there was a mention of a "sleeve" needed for the king pin.

IIRC, a +0.005in king pin is needed to fit the Ford and the Packard holes have to be reamed correspondingly. If you PM me, I'll send you Paul's phone #.

We are almost finished installing a product called "Boom Mat" on essentially all interior surfaces. Here's the description of this product:

Quote:
Boom Mats are constructed of a rubber-based (viscoelastic) polymer layer with an aluminum foil laminate outer facing, Boom Mat's strong adhesive backing is unaffected by extreme hot and cold temperatures, is corrosion resistant and can be applied to metals, painted areas, plastic, fiberglass, automotive coatings and other difficult to bond surfaces. With an ultra strong adhesive backing, it can be applied in horizontal, vertical and inverted applications as well as on complex shapes. In addition to being a superior sound absorber and a solution in controlling vibration over a wide temperature range, Boom Mats are also an excellent thermal insulator. Capable of damping annoying low frequency noise, Boom Mats also serve as a barrier to unwanted mid and high frequencies.

This product is rather expensive, but it is the latest technology for sound and temperature insulation. With 115F Summer temperatures around here and given the engine cam, headers and exhaust system, I'm sure it will prove highly beneficial.

Here's what it looks like installed on Panther interior:

Stewart,

Lookin' good!

FYI, the D-side trunk hinge pivot pin on my 55 Pat sheared one day while opening the trunk. I got the trunk lid closed and when I got home in the garage, I replaced the pin with a Grade 8 bolt of the appropriate size. You might look at yours for wear.

WRT the muffler hanger, I thought that they had a flex joint in them to prevent engine exhaust vibration from transmitting to the chassis.

Here's a picture of the trunk lid with Panther in my shop. I didn't include it in the above because it was not painted at that time.

Here's a picture of Panther safely secured and parked in my shop. He has been washed and is ready for the next stage on Monday, which is Boom Mat (acoustical and thermal insulation) of the entire interior.
