I hope that whoever restores it, paints it in the proper grey body, black fenders, crimson pin striping and wheels. Too many of these Sport models have been painted like clown cars.

A $100 doesn't even buy the solenoid, so you got an extremely good deal.

You should hear a noticeable difference in engine speed. Just like changing gears from third to fourth.

Question #2 I leave to people like Pat Mescher.

Parts of it could be hanging up on the wall of somebody's garage for all we know. The last known photo shows the normal LeBaron hood ornament on it.

Perhaps a comment was made that the car ran as fast as a "scalded dog."

It wouldn't surprise me to learn that the original was made by someone in the shop as a joke. Otherwise, you would think it would appear in more than just one photo shoot.

Macauley: "Ha ha ha, guys. Funny. Take a few photos, then put the other one back on."

Apparently the hood ornament has survived. I photographed it at a flea market vendor at Hershey this past year (2022). The vendor knew what he had, and I would have had to sell two cars in order to make its purchase.

The Packard Dietrich / LeBaron story is a very confusing story, and even Hugo Pfau failed to make it understandable, and he lived it. The Dietrichs were built in the Murray shop, the LeBarons were built in the Briggs shop. Were they one and the same? Who owned the shops? You'll find that many of the fully custom Packards have "cousins" on Lincoln, and other luxury chassis.
