from Ty Terblanche fo South Africa on his 37 Super Eight issue.

Hello Sandy
I have another Packard problem that you can maybe help me solve.

The car has had a heavy "klonk" sound for some time when pulling off, also when when changing from top to second to "brake".

It seems to be at my feet. The propshaft has been taken out TWICE and balanced once and proclaimed "fit", but still the klonk. Finally some mounting brackets on or near the gearbox were removed and revulcanised (or at least rerubbered). The noice was much better but is now back as lound as it was.

Attached is a pic of the car when I was restoring it and a mount of the gearbox can just be seen next to the clutch pedal. Also, two inserts from the Steel Rubber catalogue showing mountings used on the '37 Super. Do you have any suggestions or any experience of this type of problem before?

Thanks
ty

Sounds like universals to me what do you guys think

Dave they are arrogant..we went to the casino in
Windsor yesterday. all seniors bus trip..would you believe they forgot about us...American side... we sat there waiting for 45 mintues for someone to come collect our passports to check. finally the bus driver went in and inquwired Did you forget about us.. They were all sitting around engaged in social conversations drinking coffee or whatever...when they finally came on board to collect our passport. I am NOT one to shut up and accept..I asked hey we have been here for 45 minutes waiting. His arrogant reply....we have been busy yeah right They should fire them all at OUR Detroit customs.

i've talked to Emil on the phone as I knew his dad(a true gentleman) before he passed. The car has a homebuilt body as I indicated to Emil. More than likely it was prob a sedan variety in one part of its life..the odds are in that favor. and if it were the whole interior would have been leather.95 percent of all south african cars were delived with leather. remember road were practically non existent and if they did exist eg (Capetown to Jo burg a distance of 1200 miles) they were unpaved dirt and gravel. so leather was ordered more from a practical standpoint. You even see all leather interior in ford and chevs of that period
