Re: Front disc brakes for 1941-47 Clippers
Home away from home
Home away from home

jfrom@kanter
Hey Guys,

I don't know if this will help anyone but, I went out and weighed the parts to our disc brake conversion kit compared to the stock drum setup. The drum(composite 2 piece) and back plate fully dressed was roughly 31 lbs(one side) and the rotor, pads, caliper , and brackets were roughly 40lbs(one side). So if weight loss is what you are trying to achieve this is not going to help. But from a safety upgrade point of view it is a good one.

Our kit can be used with your original BTV but keep in mind that as disc pads wear, more fluid will have to be added to the system to make up for the increased volume of fluid displaced by the calipers. You may want to consider adding a remote reservoir to your system or upgrading to a tandem cylinder master cylinder.

Secondly if you stay with a BTV you may need to install a residual valve to the brake system.

I hope this information help. If not ask away and we will try to help.

Thanks

Yes we were aware of what you had to do to correct the issue to make the shoes work(using the dremel) at the time and the thickness of the B.S. webbing, but this was our way of trying to help by offering new adjusters. Had you tried contacting our Packard department when you discovered the issue with the brake shoes?

Thanks
James

I had made that realization too, but I figured that he had mixed the numbers up. Meaning the 3/16 was our brake shoes webbing thickness and the 5/32 was his original, so rather than questioning I just made the assumption.

Hello Rich,

Thank you for the measurements. Fred Kanter and I will be working together to look into this issue as it is the first of it's kind according to my Packard department. But to speed things up I have pulled a set of brake shoes (BS 55) and 2 new production brake adjusters, test fitted them and they do fit nicely. The measurements that gave me coincide with the set I pulled from stock.

We offering to send you 2 brand new adjusters free of charge if you would like to correct your fitment issue. If you are interested please email me with your address, so that I may ship them out to you.

Thanks

Re: 15% off Front End Kits Kanter's Mid Winter Sale

I am sorry if I was not to post this in this area or if the post is deemed inappropriate. I do understand in previous conversations with the Admin that this is a sponsor free forum so that it would not cause bias to one Packard supplier. As I had inquired about becoming a forum sponsor.

To be honest this was a last minute sale that we wanted to offer. I Felt that this was a good place to post so our customers/potentials can take advantage of the savings.

If it is against forum policy I will be more than willing to remove my post.

Thanks

Hi Rich,

Sorry I missed your PM but for some reason it did not come through. Anyway could you tell me what the thickness of the webbing was on your original shoes? Also what was the part number on the outside of brake shoes box that you received.

Thanks
