Did any of the cars look saveable? I live in Binghamton, 1/2 from there. What town?

Gerd - sorry not to reply readily, I've been away. To answer, Yes! 1957 Lincoln Premiere Landau (ie: 4 dr hardtop). I do accidentally have a rear pic or 2... this is the car that Packard might have shared a body with for '57, had Ford been more agreeable.
IIRC, Frank Cannon usually drove around in a a Mk III and IV, usually to the sound of a French horn, which seemed somehow appropriate to his rather sluggish physical presence, as did the car.

Great pic as usual! Always did like them Chicas, er, Chaikas.
This one followed me home recently, wonder if these had any influence down at the Design Bureau?

Those timeless concept cars by Ghia for Chrysler became the basis for the well known Karmann Ghia a couple of years later. Packard lost design leadership after 1947, but the 55/56s were a nice try, imo.

That's an interesting library!
Has anyone reproduced any of the Chaika or ZIL/ZIS sales literature? I'd think there'd be a market for it.

Hmmmm... the 2nd pic girl's not bad but the "departure in the 1990s" one can "render services to the state" anytime... I may be old, but I'm not THAT old.

They may have been looking for timelessness, but imo they got clunky and boring instead. The '61-69 Lincoln was what they should have been, or, if not obsessed with geometry, the highly NON geometric, most beautiful full-sized automobiles ever built: the early Fuselage C-Body Mopars of 69-71, the '70 Imperial coupe being the zenith of the breed. I had a '69 Imp and still have 70 and 71 Furys, a convertible and a sedan.
Here's the best Website on the subject (German! these cars are finally being recognized as the masterpieces they are): http://www.fuselage.de The best Forum for Fuselage C body cars (also includes 65-68): http://www.cbodydrydock.com I'm "firedome" on there, my avatar has a pic of my 71. Here's the '70 Attach file: (11.27 KB) (12.28 KB)
