Today I buttoned up the front brakes and went hunting for the BTV. Let's just say it fought me pretty good. A couple of bruised knuckles, but it's out. The two brake lines that came off the distribution block on the back of the master cylinder snapped, which I half expected. So I'll need to make 2 new lines, but they're thankfully fairly short. All but one bolt that holds the floor plate to the BTV vacuum chamber came out. One is stubborn and even snapped loose the nut that I assume was tack welded to the BTV vacuum chamber. Gonna have to get the cutting disc out to remove it later. The top of the master cylinder appears to me to have been reinstalled in the wrong direction (the filler cap is directly under the steering column). I soaked the whole thing in PB blaster, hopefully the flat head screws work loose or I'm in for more work.

Riki,

May I ask where you purchased the headlight junction blocks? I need some for my '55, they're completed corroded.

Thank you!

Blue40devil,

I found some info posted by member DavidM a few years back regarding the Motor Dictophone 740:

http://www.uv201.com/Microphone_Pages/dictograph.htm

http://telephonecollecting.org/dictograph.html

Attached was a drawing of the wiring DavidM provided.

Original thread:

Hope this helps.

Love the progress Kevin, great work on cleaning the carb, they can be thick with gas and ethanol residue (yuck).

Looks like the accelerator pump has a thread where the new one can be extended or shortened.

The pin is the jet I believe? I'll let someone with more knowledge on this carb answer that one definitively.

Don,

I bet you'd see quite a few there!

R1lark,

These critters are fairly new to me as well, coming from the southwest!

Tonight I spent some time looking over the paperwork in the car. I grab some good shots of the original documents given to the original owner, it's a shame one is in such bad shape. I wonder, are nice copies available in the documentation section of this site? I haven't seem to locate any yet. If it would be of interest to anyone for preservation sake, I could upload scans of my documents...

Using the "Seek" app on my iPhone, it identified it as a "Rough skinned Newt" - I just took him for a Packard fan. :)

Just wanted to say this is a great glimpse into an original Caribbean. I've only ever seen one (at Petersen Automotive Museum I believe). But the icing on the cake is the top - remarkable! Love to see what happens next.

Today I started tackling the front brakes. Had a buddy when I opened up the shop this morning. Guess he wanted to help! Thanks to the parts ref list the replacements were easy to come by at NAPA. The brakes looked to be in very decent shape - someone has cared on this car in the not to distant past.

I also decided to grab new hardware for my rear left bumper guard, which was loose and bothering me, so now that's right. While underneath I noticed the about 10 lbs () of dirt in the rear fender. I couldn't imagine why the lower part of this car is so rotten :p

Tomorrow I'll finish buttoning up the brakes and then it's on to the BTV for removal....

Some of the wetness is PB blaster - although the area around the drain was already wet... Kevin I saw your whole ordeal in your project thread and I avoided the drain plug on mine. I also saw you ordered a repro tank so I will keep that in mind should this one be no good.

Thank you both for the guidance!
