Have noticed that many have the shaft broken off at the end and the shaft cannot be repaired. Mine is intact. The internals of this unit look somewhat like a mini starter motor with brushes and copper wind wiring. Wonder if a place that rebuilds starters and generators could rebuild these?
Sent this unit to Hydro-Electric in Florida several years ago and they sent it back saying the motor was burned out. It does have a blackish patina on it.

Yes. mine has 6 tooth but looks like that could be replaced, as it just screws off.

Thanks, that is the "going" rate for original ones. The only difference is the removable mounting bracket. Large heavy window on the 2 door hardtops. Aftermarket ones are about that and more, but installing them is a whole different animal.

Thanks for the help.On this car, it is easy to R&R the door panel and hardware, but to install the aftermarket setup, which would work better in the long run, is beyond my capability.Finding some shop to install it, would be very difficult, if possible, and would be very cost prohibitive.

Ok, had a friend take it to the PI swap meet, and identified it it is a Delco 12volt Right front, same as '55-56 Packards.
But none were there, so still looking.

As of now I have an aftermarket aircleaner with the K&N, and noticed that it has 10 more HP. The stock aircleaner has the dual intake GM, AC aircleaner that fits on the four barrel Rochester carburetor. Would rather have the stock aircleaner with an undetectable K&N. To each his own, but I'm tired of the mess!
At Hot August Nights, a '55 Chevy Convertible won best of show, original, and the owner whispered to me that he had an K&N filter inside his oil bath, and that it gave him at least 10 more HP.

The GM type oil bath air cleaner for the four barrel is really messy. Anyone converted the inside so it can take a more efficient K&N filter ? Even in car shows, no one would know it's in there, even the judges!
