Well, we (I) hauled home the Deluxe last month, and since it's a runner and the others are all Out West (and I'm Back East at least for the time being), this one is getting all of my fiddling. So you really haven't missed any acquisitions. I do have a commitment to score a Super parts car later this year, so there's a road trip I know of coming up. The Packard club meet is 100 miles from here, so likely we'll attend. The Hotrod Homecoming is Out West in JUne, so like as not, I'll attend that, too. Like as not, this car will come with me. The plan is to drive it to the meet in Alexandria and to trailer it to KY. I'm changing the coil to a newer-fangled one with a hotter spark. Found the article here with what worked to make it happen - the negative wire was a touch confusing. But I concluded that I'll need a mounting bracket. Guess who can't find one in his store? That's right, the kids behind the terminals. "I need the year/make/model." "No, you really don't." The Bezoses didn't, and one will be arriving at my doorstep tomorrow, which is as good as today since I ain't lifting a finger before next Saturday.

Thank you. The Celestial Planning Chicken laid an egg in Wat's head as he slept last night, and a plan is beginning to form.

Struck out ordering the carb yesterday. Did get a new hotter coil ordered. It should be here tomorrow or Monday.
Got to work this weekend, so I'm not making much headway on the front bumper experiment. That would consist of getting it off to remove those heavy damned adornments (the license plate holder and the end extensions) and to see what's involved in getting the metal shield out. It's a quest to make things appear simpler and to knock a few pounds off the extended front. As I research the whole transmission thing, I have discovered that I think that I know a bit more about manufacturing than a lot of folks who "know". Why redesign the wheel? It's been done. So I use the existing design, or perhaps a subcontract my needs to a specialists, by parts he makes, and build my own wheel. If I'm trying to learn about ducks, I look for similarities in waddles and listen to a lot of quacks.

Two words: Cavalier maroon.
Maybe it's three words with "metallic" tossed in for good measure. One of the Fredmobiles is going to want to be red at some point, sooner rather than later, it is hoped.

Still digging. But it looks to be another working weekend. Damned jobs cut into hobby-time.

Thanks be to Allah, all of my cars save one came with titles. The one that didn't is a parts car anyway.
I'm currently selling a car (VA to KY), and the application for title had to be sent back to me to be signed and notarized. That one was news to me, but then again, it's out of state. Or commonwealth, really. I was told once by a former co-worker that she and her boyfriend got a salvage title from VA for an abandoned Ford product of some kind. But that was over 30 years ago, so who knows, but it might be a route to pursue.

I could, but when I do it on the kitchen table, I don't have a wife to bitch at me for it. The cats won't care, but they will help.
And I may need a spare. Besides, the last carb I had apart never did work quite right before or after.

New Fred runs decently for the most part. But it stumbles and surges a bit, like maybe the carb ain't quite gettin' her done. Also, it's hard to start when cold. Like, I have to saw on it when it's sat a week. Then it'll fire and crap out. And then it finally goes on and runs adequately, with the above complaint.
It seems that Kanter has NOS Carter WDO 512s in stock for $575 without the starter switch. A NOS starter switch is another $145. Add about $35 for shipping and handling and that's over $750. But it seems to be the surest way of scarfing a carb which hasn't been monkeyed with. I don't know. I have some other crap which needs money thrown at it right now, like the little truck. Damned in-tank fuel pumps.
