Spell checker is not always your friend.I use talk-to-text a great deal and it can come up with some surprising mistranslations.

I will have to edit more closely, as Dear Old Mom doesn't know that I have a Packard.

They are all worth something. Last I checked, they aren't making any more of any of that stuff.

Do you think that maybe scrappers (sorry, they are 'recyclers' today ) purchased some of these (the ones that went for a few hundred bucks)? Not sure what scrap prices are these days, but there is a lot of metal in those old Packards.

The one Packard in this auction that was sold by my family's Packard dealership (#88, serial 2552-5396, a four door) wend for $300 to a bidder named 'budlight', who I see bought a number of other low priced cars. I don't have any hope this car will live much longer.

Does Wat think? Are you kidding?? Wat thinks all the time - he can't turn the damned thing off.

Leaving aside the animate/inanimate discussion, I would submit that those cars weren't really "living" cooped up in a turn-of-last-century warehouse. Parts are nigh on impossible to find, especially the specialized ones. So if those cars - and most of them will because that what they're good for - get parted out, then so be it. Then, maybe, some working stiff can get his Sunday driver finished, or put the final touches on the next show winning trailer queen. Either way, I reckon it's a better use of the cars than where they were when we first heard of them.

If a person is going to waste time thinking, then try to be positive about it.

Well, now that this thing is done and it's all over with except for the whinging for having to get it all picked up and delivered, I have to say that I am very positively impressed that the old car folks stepped up and bought all but 2 of these cars. And some of it went for more than I suspected it might. Yes, there were some deals - apparently. One never knows until one gets his/her New Treasure home and starts to fiddle with it.

And I don't envy a soul for having to drag a trailer up there into Snow Country at this time of year. That thought put my bid ceiling very low. I lost the bid, but I may well have won in the long run.

Which reminds me, I need to call the guy out that way, the one with the blown 327, to talk a bit of engine theory.

I know it's a Peerless, but Three Ps and such. I wonder if this car is high six digits or seven.

That's odd that I missed this post, and now the post has been vaporized. Thanks for mentioning it, however.

Honestly, mostly what I'm looking for at this stage is straight long wheelbase front fenders. I need two good driver's sides.

Have you tried searching whatever it is with the key word in quotation marks?

Also, sometimes, I flat out have better luck with Google, no matter the website.

I got interested in old cars about the time I got interested in cars in general. And girls. And things that cost money. Of course, I was 12, more or less, and the whole shooting match was basically made of Unobtanium.

I'd get stuffed in the back seat and we'd head out of town to visit my grandparents. Of course, granddad had half a dozen pre-war cars and drove a 22nd series daily and had a 23rd for his Sunday car. We would go out of town through the old part, and I also liked the old warehouses down there. I imagined getting one and loading it up with antiques cars and other loot.

This Abelove collection has brought back this amusing memory for me, right down to the old wooden floors. I had the chance to work on an old building like that, and to study the structure. Massive wooden columns and beams. Three by fourteens on 12" centers with two by 8 t&g flooring. The sign on the wall said it was rated at 100 pounds/square foot load. Three stories, too. Probably not enough for a lot of cars, but it would have likely held quite a few regardless. I have never seen wood like that available today. Hell, the wood today isn't worth toothpicks.

Makes one wonder . . . .

It comes to me that the Hold Harmless clause is to protect their silly asses for what they tear up on the car you bought while they're dragging it out of the warehouse.

I wonder if the auctioneer would answer that question.
