Re: Battery

thanks everyone, it is a 56 The Four hundred

Sorry I input 46, but meant 56... Damn I should know what
Packard I have after 35 years.

Now... someone said the battery for a 56 Senior would be a
group 60... and also said it was no longer made in "mass" production.
Delco makes ones $270.00
I looked at a v65 nope to long and wide

My battery tray is 13 x 6.5"

And since I am not going to spend $270.00 on a battery I need to
find one that is like 11.5 x 6.5"

Again sorry for the confusion of year, as you can see I made the
appropriate change..
Thanks again

On another subject does anyone know if the end caps for the
king pins are available, they are not reusable...

I should know this, I've had my Packard for 35 years, but the answer
is not registering.. What size Battery does the 46 Seniors have
24, 27, etc.. Seems like I'm replacing batteries in all my car's right now
and I know the one in the Packard is way out of date...

Hi Craig

Wow!!, what a great job, and the color...

BTW, how is your brake system holding up? Don't you have the
single diaphragm booster?
I've been thinking of going to a hydro boost... after I get the
disc brakes installed.

Craig

Yep that is the article... I thought there was some write up
about this install.. I keep thinking that there was a mention
of a "sleeve" needed for the king pin.
Do you have any more info?
Is Paul still active on here?

I have the spindles, from a Ford F150
and today I started to disasemble a spare set of control arms
I have, clean them put new bushing in...
and get that project on it's way....

I've lost of misplaced the info on installing for F100\150 spindles
on the 55\56 Packard

Can anyone give me the web link to info

If my memory serves me the Man who did this lived in Las Vegas.

I was lucky to find the spindle and rotor's for a good price,
but since then I've had way to many projects to get done...

To all
I want to apologies for some of my answers
and my attitude.
I'm working on 3 projects right now, and sometimes
I just don't see what I'm doing until its in my
hands.
You are correct about reaming instead of honing
on the steering knuckle and support..
Since the Ford king pins are smaller in diameter
then the Packards, I am thinking I will need to
sleeve the Packard support.
Does that make more since, I don't see the need
to ream out the Ford Knuckle to match the Packard
Pin.
Any input on this, or am I going about this all
wrong!!!!! It would not be the first time for me.

hi Craig
I agree, use new parts if possible
Paul did not give much info on the disc brake swap.
I have not seen any posts from him lately.

to the guys that brought up the reaming instead of
honing.
I am only honing the steering knuckle. I am not
touching the steering knuckle support, which is were
the busing and the bearings are.
The F150 king pin is .8593 as you know the Packard is
.866 unless my info is wrong.
I have not taken the king pins out yet and have no
idea if there is a bushing in the steering knuckle
my Service manual does not show or mention one.

on another subject, in the parts x ref I see no
mention of lower control are bushings, any reason
why not?
On the upper control arm bushings IC where the Ford
D3AZ-3068 is indicated as a usable part, has anyone
installed them?

I always appreciate constructive info
I'd like to hear from anyone else who has done the
F150 steering knuckle swap
or anyone who has done the MC\booster upgrade...
Best
