I just got the 53 Patrician from the transmission shop. The jr. transmission I installed in the car, the shop said was trashed, so I gave them the original sr. transmission and they rebuilt it. Now it drove fine, except that it locks into gear at about 45 mph. I need to take it back in to get it adjusted to lock in at 20-25 mph.

I did the polarize trick and it didn't work. I checked my generator and it wasn't putting any voltage out. So I pulled the generator and the voltage regulator and took them to my local auto electric shop. He said my generator was fine, but my regulator wasn't working. He went and pulled the top off the voltage regulator and started to fiddle with the relays. He adjusted the spring tension on one of the relays and got it working. He only charged $10 for the effort. This is why I use him.
I ran out of time to install it. Will get to it this weekend. I will do the polarize trick when I put it back together. Thank you for that information.

I drove the car to a car cruise and enjoyed the quiet ride. On the way home the ammeter showed no charging, it started out charging and then stopped. I turned off the lights and drove the back roads home. I heard it could be the brushes in my generator. I'll look to see if the generator is charging first.

I just installed the newly rebuilt power master brake cylinder. The brakes work great. The first time they almost threw me through the windshield! I got to drive it about a mile and a half home but couldn't go faster than 25 mph due to no high in my transmission, but it was fun.
I dropped off my car at the transmission shop. They said the transmission was rebuilt wrong and he wanted to convert it to a Chevy transmission. I said I had the original transmission and I delivered it to him. I wanted the transmission fixed not rebuilt! The original transmission was pulled because it leaked, it ran but it leaked. So I bought the other transmission because I was told it worked fine. I just should have had my original transmission rebuilt and that would have saved time.

The car is back together and is running. I have not put the heater back in because I want to install the radio first. At least I don't hear any lifter noise, at least that's what I thought I heard, it was the exhaust leak.
Now to drive it and then work on the other items. ![]()

I was driving it and it was shifting into high at 40 mph and seemed to run fine. Except that I had a leak in my fuel line, so I dropped the tank and had the tank cleaned. I put the gas tank back on and found the real problem of my fuel leak, fixed that. Then on the test drive, I only had low and reverse. It would only slip in high. So it was suddenly.
After I install the master brake cylinder, I'll address that. Thanks.

I decided to work on the brakes. While driving the car, when I stop I have to lift the brake pedal up to release the brakes.
I removed the master brake cylinder and sent it out to White Post Restoration. I now have it back and am waiting for a chance to reinstall it. Then I get to look at the transmission. I can go in low and reverse, but it won't move in high. I have dropped the transmission oil pan and sprayed 4 cans of brake cleaner into the transmission hoping it would clean it (and it did), but I still have the same problem. The transmission manual says the hi gear solenoid needs to be repaired/replaced but that is beyond what I can do. Any thoughts or has any one seen this before?

The 40 160 is back from the upholstery shop and it looks great.
Now to work on the exhaust leak which I should have done while the car was waiting for the upholstery. Anyway, I removed the intake and exhaust manifolds because I had an exhaust leak. I took the manifolds to a machine shop who machined the parts that were worn and lined up the intake and exhaust manifolds so they would be flat/square with the engine and hopefully not have any more exhaust leaking. This is the 3rd time I have removed the manifolds for an exhaust leak. That's why I had a machinist mill the parts flat. This is a trusted machinist who works on these older engines in the Phoenix valley. I have the engine back together, now just working on putting the fender back on. I also removed and repaired the heater (because it was leaking). I would like to install my 'new' AM tube radio but I need to move the heater over. Where can I get information as to where to move it to or is it just where I can get it to fit after the radio is installed?

Jim,
Not to pull you off topic, but.... I installed an electric wiper motor from Newport Engineering. It bolts right up to the Packard firewall and wiper hook up. It works great. In Arizona my windshield wiper motors always dried up. This one has been working for over 10 years. Of course I try not to get caught in the rain, but it works great when I do get caught in the rain.
