Just saw this tonight, this company makes adapters to put GM automatic transmissions on the back of Packard V8s, the 288/327 straight 8's, and the 356 straight 8: Packard Transmission Adapters

Disclaimer: I don't know anything about this company, except saw them mentioned in Rodder's Journal and looked at their website tonight. I have not used any of their products.

My apologies if this has been discussed widely here previously. I looked back several pages and didn't see a thread about these.

He'p me, please. I'm pretty sure that this is a Clipper block and not a '34 as advertised (monoblock casting, and so on). But, can you tell if it's a 282 or a 356?

eta: If that's a casting date, then it just had a birthday last weekend.


eta#2: I think that I count 9 mains, which would have to make it a 356. Right???


Awful crusty looking on the outside, but that bottom end looks pretty good! Wonder why they didn't provide pics of what is behind the lifter covers, and under the head?

Kevin, this fall go back and compare what the headliner looks like then with the pics you have posted. I think you will be much more pleased with your installation because the heat will slowly make the wrinkles disappear. Put the car outside on some of the hottest days this summer with the windows closed, that will help too.

Good work on this beautiful Packard, keep the reports coming. You are getting things done much faster than I seem to on my projects!

Kevin, I'm so sorry to hear this! I do feel your pain, I have had rare NOS parts destroyed in shipping also. However, unlike your situation they were not parts that would keep me from driving the car.

Looking forward to you documenting the headliner install process Kevin. I have done cloth headliners, but I believe those are more forgiving than vinyl.
