With the hood up the latches and mechanism works fine?
Did you have someone in the car moving the lever while you watched the mechanical show from outside? Is the hood aligned correctly when it lowers (front and back left and right)? Are the holes in the underside of the hood clear? With the hood down and centered does it lower completely and is flush with the fender? If so, does the lever move at all (moves a little bit and then stops) or is it stuck in the full forward position?

I believe it has these anti percolator valves. I had the cover off a couple of weeks ago to oil and inspect however I did not make any adjustments or measurements. I will look at it.
THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTIONS

Monroe Power Steering Actuator Service Manual

Hi All,
Does anyone have the service manual for the Monroe PS System? I found the Power Steering Training Manual that was uploaded by Big Kev however it only discusses the Bendix system. Is there one like this for the Monroe system? The Service Manual only discusses standard steering gear and does not have any information on the PS system. Any help would be appreciated.

Good thinking on each topic... Yes it has a working heat riser and the insulator spacer... no heat shield though... might consider that.

Lab work?!?!?
I'll just be happy to get this car out of my damn garage. Can't begin to count how many times it has been up and down on the lift or how many times the wheels have been off. Had brake drag issues yesterday... wheel cylinder was hanging up... tried to hone out some pitting... no luck... thanks to this forum listing the exact part number (the computers did not show parts available for the wheel cylinder) I was able to get it done.. this forum is a real lifesaver. I will try the old lab test of boiling the fuel technique. If I burn off my eyebrows I'll be sure to let you know. Thanks again its back to drinking beer after a long day of Packarding.

I will try Lares on Tuesday. There is a car show on Sunday I want to make. Plus my dad really wants his toy back.

Well...the guy who rebuilt the PS pump told me he tested the pump and it produced 900 PSI (and I believed him) and spent lots of money and time rerouting the PS hoses and buying a larger diameter pressure side hose.
Today...I FINALLY got tired of chasing my tail and spent $130.00 on a pressure hose with a pressure gauge and a ball socket shut off valve like the Packard Service manual describes and followed their pressure testing procedure...guess what...the pump only puts out 660 PSI when the ball socket is fully closed. So now... I need to figure out how to increase the output pressure of the PS pump to get rid of the annoying hum!!! Grrr. Any suggestions? This PS pump is actually out of a 1953 Chrysler Imperial and their manual agrees with the 600 to 650 max PSI number. How does one know what vendor was used for the Chrysler verses Packard pumps? This pump says Eaton on the side and the rebuilder said that it is not an original pump.

Re: Engine Temperature Gauge Reading

I wanted the 150 degree thermostat because the engine would run cooler and therefore show lower on the gauge and that hopefully keep my dad from "overheating" when he sees the gauge creeping up.
I guess the way to test it would be to spot the infrared thermometer just below the temp sender and see what that reading is and correlate the gauge reading.
