If you do try it, use the right one. They have a extreme temperature version. I've seen it used in an industrial application by pipefitters and millwrights on ducting and piping for temporary repairs to get through to a shutdown or outage scenario. Take note it doesn't have the same mechanical properties of the regular JB Weld.

Update..nevermind answering, got it - black to ground, red to coil. Thanks anyway..

Years ago I was given a vintage (probably late 70's) Maxi-tune by a family friend. I used it years ago but can't find the instructions for it (if I ever had them). I've seen two versions online one unit with yellow, red and black alligator leads along with a metal plate with red and black wires connected to it. My unit lacks the yellow lead and I've seen these online also without. I'm guessing mine is an earlier version?? I have been unable to locate instructions online. Anyone have one of these? I must confess I'm not using it on the Packard - yet. I think my idle is set too high on my 5.7 Mercruiser I/O after I rebuilt the carburetor.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

For your quarter panel you may want to try rockerking.com , there isn't a way to search for your panel but they boast having the largest aftermarket supply of panels for a number of makes. I called them years ago for a DeSoto I use to own. They have a lot of GM, Chrysler and Ford. They also list Studebaker, so there is a chance. May be worth the call. Otherwise may be worth calling some yards out west that may cut you a panel out of a desert shell.

I guess each region is experiencing this differently. I grew up in the NE and have many friends and family in the hotbed areas but down south it's actually quite calm.. at least my area. For the most part you can get the food you want and clerks chat with you and bag your food like normal. I put in a large order with the Home Depot for some items for my house and workshop/garage I've been building and still can't get a delivery date after 3 days, told due to demand.

Been trying to build my garage for over a year now. I'm in a high demand area and had to wait months for a foundation to be poured (my 70 yards of concrete was "small"). Inspections are still happening.. thought I might get a deal to fill and pour a pad during this - nope just got blown off by a contractor that is "backed up."

Not everyone under 45 isn't interested in these cars, I'm 41 and have had my '56 since I was 15. I drove that to HS and belive it or not everyone loved it and got asked for rides constantly. I drove the crap out of that car putting ~35k miles on it through college. My father hates these cars, never understood why I liked them and constantly tried to get me to relive his teenage lust for a Camaro - never happend. The one thing that bothered him most was the amount of price gauging that happened. The couple of times I got him to go with me to Hershey (mid 90's) he would shake his head just saying "crazy." He knew that people who converted these cars into investments were creating a barrier to entry for folks like me. I no longer have that problem, nor do I care what my cars will be worth one day. If one day my cars bring a little money for my wife, that would be great but I don't think of it as an investment. I don't go on hunting trips to Colorado like my brother in-law, or have season Jets tickets like my cousin. If my cars are worth anything that's a win, but only after I've driven them accross the country on numerous tours and Great Race events - then I got my moneys worth. But I have learned a lesson and ony buy stuff now where the top goes down.
Stuff is really bad right now, but not all is lost. My company can't make enough products, and we don't make facemasks. You would be surprised to hear the goods that are still selling in high numbers. All segments are up only one divsision is down and we've converted sales from commerical to retail customers.
Anyone selling a car right now is going to get hosed. The reason why IMHO is: Who is traveling to go get one? I'm not leaving my county right now, so unless there is a buyer right there...

It looks to me that your quarter panels and possibly rockers hold the worst surprises for you. One of the top photos of the driver side quarter show a lot of mud that wasn't even shaped well. If it were my car I would either try to feel behind where the filler is or take photo from the backside to try to assess how much filler is there filling a hole vs a scrape or dent. I think that may give you a better idea of what you are up against. You certainly need to do some welding. Whether or not you are up to the challenge is only for you to decide but do you have an adequate work space, tools and is the plan to keep the car outside? Working outside has it's own challenges but if you are planning on keeping it outside you may just want to just do some light damage control and enjoy it as is. Once you start tearing in... point of no return.

Re: Trailering a '55

Since you haven't gotten any hits with '55 owners.. I've trailered everything I have (plus some). The attachment points are more trailer specific than car specific. You don't mention if it's a full flatbed or two-wheels down (I've never done the later and wouldn't recommend it personally). The majority of trailers I've used are U-haul units. Based on the weight of your vehicle you may have a hard time renting one (especially if it's complete as yours probably is). The straps on those units go over your front tires and ratchet strapped down, with the addition of back-up chains on the front frame and back frame. The chains don't need to be tight but I wrap a rag around or through the chain where it rests on the frame (only if your frame is detailed). However, I highly recommend you either look up online the manufacturers instructions for using their trailer. If you've never towed a vehicle before, it's not "Miller Time", may want to hire it out. If you get someone reputable to do it they know best but I'd recommend being involved. You have I'm sure many fixed attachment points, but I would be concerned with avoiding torsion level components etc., I always chose points that won't flex, tear etc. Good luck..

So the 1946 operating loss continued to bother me... perhaps I am also tired of Coronavirus news. Last night I decided to do a Google search and see if I could find the annual reports to the shareholders and guess what? Found them right here! On page five you can read the financial review, an interesting read. Long and short 1946 saw tremendous issues with supplier shortages and strikes in those plants. The plant output which was only operating at 42% capacity (not how they stated it in the report) meant they had to absorb a lot more fixed cost per unit. In fact the loss from operations was significantly higher at $6.5M. They were able to offset it with revenue from subsidiaries and capitalizing on a NOL carryback (the IRS allows taxpayers to carry loses backwards a period of two years - still done present day). So they were able to carry back to offset 1944 income. There was also an adjustment of $2.9M in reserves set aside for wartime operations no longer needed.

Interesting to see these are here, highly recommended supplementary info to compliment Dave's file. Now back to present day realities...

That's a shame and actually surprising more in depth minutes weren't taken.

So this one has me intrigued and have a theory: After the war they may have had substantial asset retirements from war production that became impaired with the close of the war. I would think any surviving minutes from the BOD at the end of '45 through '46 would discuss this if it was the case.
