H264097 would be a 1949 (23rd Series) 288, 135 HP, Solid Lifters

If the serial was H291001 or higher then in would be 1950 (23rd Series).

But either way, the exact same engine.

There should be a "pin" that is connected to the manifold parallel with the shaft which the other end of the bimetal coil attaches to. See attached picture:

Never trust color chips on any website. There are many things at play. How well the scanner scanned it, any image compression and color shifting due to the file format, and also how your individual monitor displays the color, and the ambient light in the room. Online chips should only be used for "general" comparison.

I can tell you that the 1954 Chip Sheet looks very washed out compared to the original DuPont Chip sheet I have in my hand right now.

Have you verified the Engine Serial number? It was quite common to put a 288 head on a 327 block to increase the compression.

My '54 327 has a 288 head on it. If you can tell us the engine serial number, then we can tell you exactly what motor you actually have right down to what year it was from.

The engine serial number starts with a letter followed by 5/6 numbers and will be on a machined pad on the drivers side of the motor towards the back. Basically above the starter. If it's hard to read, then rub it with a piece of chalk, and wipe it off to make it more visible.

Thanks for the link for that Adapter Company. Curious to see how their Packard version comes out.

The other thing with California and Lacquer is that unless you are going to spray it yourself, you not going to find a legal shop in California that will do to the VOC limits, and Environmental rules.

California is trying to set up booth licenses rules (similar to Liquor Licenses) to regulate the number of Paint Booths even allowed to operate in the State.

If it just dies (no sputtering), they it's probably electrical related. If it sputters then dies, then I would think it's a fuel issue.

Thanks to John Shireman, the following are now up on the website. We are still missing most of the Zone Only Bulletins, as well as a few other Dealer Bulletins. If you happen to have any in your collection, please donate a copy so we can fill them it.

Thanks,
