Packard Barn
#91
Home away from home
Home away from home

Bill Clay
Years ago in the woebegone 1970s when I was driving my 1955 400.
I used to deal with a company called The Packard Barn, I think they were located in Massachusetts.
They were very helpful and had many parts for my car. I was wondering if they were still around and if not what became of them?

Yep, noticed the head lamp trim rings.
I didn't know the production changes.

Wow Steve!
I'd buy and restore that Packard just for the snazzy sun visor!

Still waiting on the Studebaker folks for regulator assemblies.
In the mean time I found the manuals and dug out the part numbers for the escutcheons, switches, and bezels. Maybe Lark Works can put together a wire harness?
We will see...

I have a used roof mounted antenna from a 1940-41 Buick.
Has the plastic interior knob and escutcheon plate.
If anyone is interested? Don't know if could be used on a Packard?

I can only imagine the chaos that took place there! What a shame, what a waste!
Firstly for the lost of a fine motor car company, it's manufacturing plant, and all that history lost.
I have only owned two Packards a 1955 400 found in salvage yard, got running, and my present Packard a 1957 Packard wagon.
I found the 57 in a junk yard and was rather sad looking and although not a true Detroit built Packard it needed to be saved before it was sent to China.
We still refer to it as a Packard.
Yes, I will read up on the "last days in the bunker".

I was wondering after reading this tread, how did all or most of Packard's production orders get into private collector hands?
Was there an auction of some sort when the Detroit plant and offices were closed? Or did Packard just lock the door and walk away in 1957? Leaving the plant to become victim of theft and vandalism?

Thanks Howard and Steve!
Next step for me is to dig out my manuals and find the S-P part numbers for switches and bezels.
This is looking like it may come together, I hope!

Well I talked to the Studebaker folks in South Bend today.
The units they have in their warehouse have checked out.
I ordered them and will wait for their arrival to see what's next.

Thanks again Howard!
I really hadn't any idea as to what I may be looking for.
If the assemblies check out, I'll start a switch search
I appreciate all your help!
Bill
