The trunk floor was covered by a very thin carpet material with a flock appearing finish

Would this "carpet" have been laid loose on top of the coated floor pan? The rest of the trunk would have had the sprayed on flock? In a greyish/brown colour as BigKev suggested?

I think the flocking was a tannish-gray color which was sprayed over a black asphalt sound deadener.

That would make sense as to why I have a bit of both colours going on. Thanks again!

Most folks replace it with a thin carpet. Lowes/Home Depot has a selection of indoor/outdoor low nap carpet that works perfectly, and it cheap.

Thank you! So the trunk pan would have been the same as the inner fenders, etc, correct? Was there a standard colour? Some of my trunk coating seems to be grey, but some seems to be black.

Not adverse to changing the materials that were originally used, I'm not trying to get to Pebble Beach! LOL But, I do want to maintain the car's originality as much as possible.

Can someone confirm how Packard would have finished the trunk of my 53 Cavalier? I am pretty sure that gold shag carpet was not factory!!!

TIA

This wiring diagram should help you double check that everything is hooked up right. It's for a 26th series, but should work for what you need.

Old-fashioned remedies for piston slap when finances prohibited a proper rebuild: (1) knurling the skirt on the thrust face to expand the diameter of the skirt, and (2) install a piston expander. Both were capable of providing some short-lived relief, I did both myself many years ago. Plenty of descriptions of needed tools and materials in older editions of service manuals such as Glenn's.

A skirt expander is just that, a spring steel device inserted into the piston from below which exerts an outward, stretching force on the skirt.

If you need illustrations I can provide some from Glenn's Manual.

Do you know if skirt expanders are still available for a 327? TIA 53 Cavalier

When the Service Manual says "the adjusting plug should be drawn up tight" do they mean the spring should be completely compressed and then the plug backed off? TIA

Another good one is AC Delco Lubricity Additive. My mechanic, that believes most additives are snake oil, and many are, recommends this product.

Sales are going to go through the roof! LOL

BTW My suspected lifter issue was not a lifter but a bad wrist pin bushing on #4.
