Thanks, HH56 for the help with the pump problem. I'll pass your thoughts along to the kid working for my mechanic on the car as he is young enough that the car could be his Grandfather.
Really interesting about the fuel bowl by the carb. It does appear to have a ceramic filter in there and I know I would have branded it OK if I could get air though it.
The electric is back by the tank and is supposed to be a "helper" for the mechanical one. We did briefly talk about rebuilding it as the vacuum side will be needed for the wipers. I will contact the seller to see if he had the tank cleaned. If not, that will certainly be moved up the list.
Thank you again,

Jim

Oh, Ozstatman.....

I just found out what the third Packard was that got deleted from The Registry: It was my 1951 200 Deluxe Touring Sedan.

Was it something I said?

I just got the preliminary report from my mechanic who's checking over my new '51 200 Deluxe Touring Sedan. He says that it is another 288 that has hydraulic valve lifters instead of solids. Was that an option for the 288 or did Packard make a late running change?
As far as the rest of the car goes it seems the seller had put an electric fuel pump in it which was alternately flooding the engine at idle and starving it to death above 30-40 mph.
They have also been running a lot of chemicals through it and when I stopped by Friday afternoon it was sounding 100% better. Full report as to what she needs next week.

Nope, it's gone.
On the plus side, it looks like the entry I made about the 400 I "almost" got on e-bay and had been meaning to banish is gone too! So it's not ALL bad.....

Well, at least I found out what the scale of my "dinky" Patrician is.
As for the registry, if that's the worst thing that happens re: that car, I'm doing great!
I will wait to see what Kev can pull out of his bag of tricks. If "the truth really is now ---out there" I'll re-enter tomorrow. I was going to change things anyway..

It just dawned on me. I made two entries - the first one timed out on me. And I think in the last one I didn't mention mention the "Dinky Toy" Patrician.
Maybe the second one's still there? I'll look.

Yesterday it became official: With money exchanged for Title, I became the new owner of a 1955 Packard Patrician. The colors are Ultramarine Iridescent top and lower body over Zircon. The interior is coded 60 - with the leather bolsters matching the Zircon and fabric a sort of Paisley version of the darker color. I plan on bringing it home as soon as I get a space in the garage cleaned out.
The really strange thing is that when I was about 8 years old, I traded a toy car of mine for two toy 55 Packard Patricians that a neighbor kid had. One was a sort of middle green over yellow but the other one was painted exactly the same as the car I bought Yesterday - 52 years later. All most makes me believe in "Fate".
I've lost the green and yellow one, but I found the matching one about a month ago in a box I was going through from my parents house. The model car was a "Dinky Toy" Die-cast for those wondering. I don't know what the scale is but it's about 4" long.

Hey BigKev,

I for one, would be interested in the insulator pad for my '51 which was delivered yesterday!

Hi Richard and Congrats on saving that car!
You mention it has a lot of rust. There is a seller on e-bay under 1955-1956 Packard in the Parts section and he has been mentioned here. He makes the passenger compartment and trunk floor replacement pieces for '51-'56 Packards. What's even better is that the parts are pretty reasonable. I will be using him as the drivers floor pan on my '51 will need replacement soon. I think it's about $50 bucks.
Good luck with your project! I'm pretty new to the site myself and there is an amazing amount on info and people ready to help. Also, I'm picking up a '55 Patrician tomorrow so I'll be following your progress avidly.
