There is an external solenoid on the firewall. Not sure what it is from, yet, but it looks like a Ford piece if I remember correctly from my college days when I was four-wheeling all time.
So, it looks like I have some work to do- non-factory carb, modified starter.

Worked on the car some more today. Got it to fire, but still couldn't get it to run. The tank has a lot of varnish, and since the car is still on the trailer, so I didn't want to work on draining it. I put a rubber line and in-line filter from the fuel pump inlet side into a gas can.
It fired, but wouldn't stay running. I discovered that the carb isn't factory (Rochester off of a GM) so I'll be looking for one of those. The carb is leaking all over. It started and ran a month ago, but I haven't been able to get it going since then. I think the new gas (10% ethanol) ate all the rubber out of the carb. Rather than rebuild an incorrect carb, I think I'll be looking for the right carb and working on other things in the meantime. So it goes...

On my '37 Six, the owner's manual says that there should be a magnetic switch on top of the starter. Looking at my current starter (see picture), it looks like the negative cable goes directly to the starter, without the magnetic switch. Is that switch a common failure item and fixed like my starter?

The same guy selling those bumper guards has a rear bumper, and he said, "It's for a 120c, but they'll fit all junior models."
I'm just a newbie, but I'm pretty sure that they aren't all the same. I haven't counted the bumper holes in my car vs. that bumper, but I think the cars with racks had more holes.

Looked at the body some more tonight- I've got cancer in both passenger doors, but everything else will be able to be restored- deep breath! Time to learn some more body skills, eventually. We're moving in this weekend, and then I'll be working on getting it running, to start with. The body work will come later. Nice to finally see it in person.

So, when I picked up my car the other day, I also bought a heater and a radio on the side. They both came out of various 37 Packard 115s he got over the years. The radio I'm nearly positive is factory. The heater? According to the accessory catalog is not. Also, the fact that it says Super Deluxe would make it seem like it came from a Super 8 or something similar. Can anyone tell me what it is and maybe PM me what it's worth? The switch is in great shape, and I'm pretty sure they're fragile, right?
Thanks!

PS- the green stuff on the roof is stretch wrap to cover the gaping hole. It worked pretty good, but the oak (all there) is pretty dry rotted, so some wood work is in my future.
Body has a lot of cancer - crap.

Well, got the car home(ish). Haven't done too much to it yet, we're still looking for a rental while we're in CT. It isn't running at the moment. It ran a month ago, but when I went to pick it up, we couldn't get it to go. It would pop and sputter right after priming the carb, but nothing else. When we tried pull starting it, it would pop and stutter but not stay running. I put 3 gallons of fresh gas in it prior to running, but nothing else.
After I got home, I pulled all the plugs and put a couple squirts of oil in each cylinder. After cranking it over with the plugs out for a second, I put a thumb over each hole, and they all had good "finger-compression." (No compression gauge yet). I also looked at each plug on the block, and the spark appeared pretty strong. I ran out of daylight, so didn't look at the distributor, but the wires looked good. The tank was supposed to be empty, which is why I put fresh gas in, but today I took the inlet line off the carb and cranked. The good news, fuel comes out. Bad news, it smells REALLY bad- varnish, color off, etc. I ran out of daylight, but I'm going to get a battery charger tomorrow, get the battery good and charged and then stick a filtered line from the fuel pump suction into a gas can. If that doesn't work, I'll start in on the electrical side- distributor, no cracked cap, good rotor, etc.
