Do you mean the trim piece that is part of the grille but mounts on the fender?

I cannot identify them positively. The exterior door handles definitely have a GM look. The same can be said for the leading edge of the rear side window. Because of popularity, and the shape of the lower edge, I would second '57 Chevy. Probably a Bel Air "4 door hardtop", I think the length is excessive for a 2 door.

My father always maintained that Atwater-Kent shut down, rather than unionize. Does anyone know if this is true? He also reported maniacal laughter coming from the White House when he was stationed there in WWII. A true story, he bought a Mannlicher-Schoenauer from Aberchrombie & Fitcb during the war, a deal because the only ammunition was German. They took him up to the roof to test fire into sand bags. If I recall, that was 38th and Park. Can you imagine that today? Helicopters! SWAT teams! Maybe that is why A&F switched from guns to Tee-shirts.

My wife and I have decided to skip Branson and set our sites on Gettysburg next year.
I have also heard about a new process called soda blasting that I will have to look into.

Not looking at my calendar, but I think next year at Gettysburg is a 5th year event. They are usually biggest every 5th year. Take the tours, well worth it.

Soda blasting works very well for paint removal, much less scoring of the metal than sand. Theoretically, smooth surfaces (windoews, chrome)don't over any "bite" to the baking soda particles. Like almost all air borne abrasives it is most effective on "hard" surfaces. It will just about bounce off rubber and you have to work hard on latex paints.

Someone mentioned use on a frame, I've never heard of that.

Just a note, most dual quads around the Packard displacement use a pair of 390's. I think in the Packard era 500cfm was more common. I had a Mopar "long ram" set up once, seems to me they were 500's.

Faust,

if you live a few steps from the car, would you be so kind to cast a glance at the VIN-tag and the Thief-proof number? We would be obliged if you could do a couple of photographs (and when you bake a plum pie).

I am not particularly near it, it is in upstate New York. For whatever reason it came up on a local Craig's List Packard serach.

Here is what I thought it was, identified as a '46 Clipper 8 "family limosene".

From local Craig's List - Anyone recognize this?

The seller doesn't know what it is, it's listed as '39, '40, '41, or '47. From looking through a gallery, I think it is a Clipper "Family limosene". Another picture shows it has jump seats.

About Packard, etc. When I was a kid, I remeber my father telling me that the government forced the "Big Three" to help out Studebaker-Packard, and other smaller companies. This was supposed to be a government move to prefvent monopoly.

I don't know if that story should rest aside the 50 mpg carburetor the oil companies wouldn't allow on the market.

That's kind of a scary thought. What kind of track and what happens if something goes amiss--like a steering or brake job not quite up to spec?

Here is another NYC roof-top story. During WWII Aberchrombie & Fitch had a sale on Mannlicher-Schoenauers (they were a gun store then, not a clothing brand) because the only ammunition for them was German and unobtainable. My father went to see about one and they took him up on the roof to test fire into barrels of sand. If I recall correctly, that was at 38th and Park.

Can you imagine that today, helicopters, SWAT teams?
