It's find a good home or chop city and i still don't want that. But i thought Packard was a high end car. From what i see buick, pontiac and olds had it all over Packard. They did some cheesy crap building those cars.

Well, I have decided to sell the cars. I'm done with the packard thing, i've been cured. I said i would not butcher the car to do what i wanted to do. So instead of destroying the car to make it driveable they are up for sale. If i can't sell them then maybe a body swap onto a chevy 4x4 frame is in order or a large bbq pit. If anyone knows an interested party contact me, 1500.00 for both cars and all the parts. Y'all have a nice day now ya hear.

No engine no transmission. I have checked in my area and have found nothing. So would have to buy both and then rebuild both which would put me well over a couple of grand. Just can't afford to do it.

Y'all are giving me options and to some of you those options might be quite reasonable. Unfortunately as stated in previous posts here the financial situation is not going to allow for the those options. The car you mention is deep in the land of fruits, nuts and liberals. The cost to retrieve the vehicle would pretty well kill me. Not to mention the cost of the vehicle. I already have a good running small block Chevy v8 that is basically costing me nothing through some trading. Aside from that I have already picked up a 53 parts car, no engine, transmission or drive line.
I appreciate all of the suggestions I am getting. Unfortunately some of you are not paying attention to what I'm saying about finances. As I see it I have three real options here. 1... Go ahead with my plans to swap in a small block Chevy and modern auto trans. Like a T400 or 700R4. 2.. Someone out there can donate a running 327 straight 8 and auto trans that bolts right in and is original. 3.. anyone wants to they can rescue the cars from the idiot who owns them (that would be me). Either by buying them or trading me a comparable year and condition Chevy,Pontiac,Olds or Buick car. Don't do Fords for the most part. Dodge in those years weren't too bad. So that's the way i see it right now. Dutchman

You may be right on that one. I've been turning wrenches for a little over 40 years. Built several "frankenstein" Trucks over the years. Put small blocks and big blocks in 50's trucks, swapped to modern rear diffs etc. I don't have a fully equipped shop, just a carport and dirt. But have an a frame, cherry picker, etc, etc. Built volkswagen trikes from scratch, trailers, etc. Been welding for over 25 years. I have seen no 50's packards that run and are turn key in the range i can afford. Besides i want something i built not someone elses project. I am aware of the pitfalls of doing jobs like this one but quite willing to do my best to build what i want. Sorry if i come off being a bit snippy. I was just hoping someone else had done the job and could offer a bit of help and insight. Isn't that what we builders/fabricators do? I know i have offered help to other builders in the past. I understand this is a touchy subject and opinion is to keep it all packard. But at least i'm trying to keep it on the road and at least looking like an original packard. Thanks

Thanks Craig, i appreciate the response. Anyway you could find out how your friend did the swap. I have a couple of ideas on how to do it. I do have an 85 small block from a friend. Still working on a tranny, debating on a 700r4 or a turbo 400.

Hey Kev...thanks for the input I do appreciate it brother. But so far I haven't been able to find a good 327 and the cost of rebuilding it is prohibitive in my circumstances. As far as the value, we'll I already know the car will stay in the family no matter how I build it. My goal is do the v8 conversion in a manner that will make it possible to go back to stock. I refuse to butcher up a nice car for the sake of customizing and being cool to other people. This car is just for me. The value doesn't even come into play for me. I just love packards and want to own and drive one. I understand your point of view and desire to stay original. I wish I could afford to do it.

Would anyone out there know about dropping a small block chevy into my 52 packard 300? Unfortunately i can't afford to go original engine and trans in this car. I'm on disability with very limited funds, but love the old packards. If anyone can help me out i would really appreciate it.
