I have also bad temp sending unit. Like here someone write and have used NAPA Echlin TS6464 sending unit, so I got also one. Temp gauge does not reading right. Test with potentiometer connected and instrument cluster temp gauge shows:
Hot = 14,2 Ohms 1/2 way = 26 Ohms Cold = 72 Ohms When I use TS6464 gauge reading was too hot. Add one 10 Ohm resistor and reading was correct 1/2 way. 180F thermostat. Cylinder head 213F Top water hose 182F Bottom water hose 167F This works to me and car is -51 Packard. Echlin TS6464 have same 1/4 thread as old sender and cost just under $13.

First, I'm not complain the overflow when fill gas tank full with cool gasoline it's clear to me what will be the results.
My issue is when I fill gas tank 1/2 to 3/4 full, driving and gas spills out. I think where the notch is now it's the worst position. Cut neck off and turn it 180 degree will improve a lot but with out notch and vented gas cap is best. For me is easier just remove the gas tank and weld the notch but I may thinking stupid way: "I have leaky old gas tank ok, I purchase new gas tank with full price and still have leakage. Why I have to fix my new gas tank by my own cost?" I will make gas cap from Polycarbonate, install action camera and look what really happens. Hope it will proof do I'm wrong or right... Thanks.

Sure I'm not happy due I have to waste my time with this. Let's say I'm happier if:
1. Replace the gas tank with out notch. 2. Just new filler neck tube with out notch. 3. Money compensation. Due I'm not only who have problem like this you cant do anything else just take gas tank back. One funny thing, I ask sales staff compensation because I have purchased the new gas tank and still have leakage problem "how about $6 what is rough amount of JB weld" no... It's your style to make business someone like it but sorry I don't. Sorry Sir, just like to say you wasting your time to make any future diagnose and its clear for me and also to someone else here that notch is not right size or/and right place if its even needed, but it's you call. Yes, I have deluxe kit with new non vented cap from the kit and new vented cap. I don't see any difference.
I have also send picture by e-mail how it looks like when gas melting under body coating and it "painting" back quarter below filling hatch. I don't know amount of spilling gas but it is much more than just make the filling neck wet. Lets say straight I will be really happy if it leaking so less as your gas tank in the picture. All this with 3/4 full tank (if your kit gas sending unit works right with original gauge) I'm ashamed to say that $500 is big money to me. I'm not person who make epoxy patents or anything like that to gas tank and like I told earlier don't like to hear from sales person something like that "use JB welding" I'm not sales person, but I like to hear more like "what we can do to make you happy" All respect but I think it is not what you have to do if you have quality parts. Now I know logical reason for notch and will be nice to know also logical reason for stupid location in bottom half why not top half? (sorry this, it's just my personal opinion). I like to send gas tank back after my vacation. (remove the gas tank after vacation is not my first project) I drive my Packard with it's proud and I'm sure that my driving style is not a reason for leakage. Thanks J. Vestman

So, I'm not alone with this "Kanter gas tank issue". How somebody even think to make vent like this and to bottom half of filling neck, why not top half? Think that water can get in if this notch or what ever they like to call it, is on top half?
Don't know, but I decide to take it out and send my junk gas tank back to Kanter, by new Chevy 55 - 57 tank and hope that I don't have to deal newer again with those sales persons. This I wrote to PackardClub forum and I copy paste my text here: [font=Courier]Hello I'm new Packard owner. I have just basic model, 1951 4d sedan. Car have been in barn many years but still good shape and after some working hours back on the road. My old gas tank have leakage, so I purchase new one from Kanter Auto Products. Everything fit nice and looks good but after I fill the tank (about 3/4 full, lot before filling pistol stop by self) and drive to have some Burger. Jump out from car and smell gas and back near gas tank fill hatch was dirty and wet (gas), I was surprised what went wrong. Gas tank filler neck sealing surface have notch in bottom half about 7 a'clock. Gas tank cap have sealing but gas leaking out from that stupid notch. Gas cap have vent hole and it should be enough to vent the tank. After sending e-mails with pictures and calls communication was really bad (I understand it's busy time and not nice to deal with not happy customers) Final answer was that " we have sold hundreds of these gas tanks, I'm only who is not happy and have this kind of problem, by some J & B weld and fill the notch, it should solve the problem" I spend about $500 for tank and don't like to hear comments like that (really shit service and don't like to deal any more sales persons like that) Is it really so that I'm only who have problem like that? I'm also worry because it's safety and serious fire hazard. But any way nice simple car and I love smooth running straight 8... Thanks J.Vestman
