My goal is to have a very nice restored car I can drive anywhere. I think you are correct, I will proceed with the body on the frame. I have read other posts where shimming the body can be a bit of a nightmare.

Friday I will order the shift linkage parts from Kanter. Thanks so much for bring this issue to my attention! I would not have known about it.

The body is in such good condition. the floors are perfect - even in the trunk. the interior was completely gone, having spent 10 years in a barn. I hope to have all the mechanicals sorted out this summer. I'm sure I'll have many more questions!

So I have come this far... would you remove the body and paint the frame? or can i paint it with the body on?

The next step is wheel bearings, seals and shocks all around. Front end Sup rebuild. The Diff is leaking oil, so gasket and diff drive seal?

My engine has been out of my 120 for more than a year now. I made this cradle to protect the engine during my moves. (Hopefully i will not have to move again!) anyway, the oil pan has been off this extended amount of time. Do you think the main seals have dried out? Should i replace them now since the engine is out? and if so, is there anything else i should address to the engine while i have it torn down this far? The car has 33,0000 miles on it and it runs fantastic - smooth and quite. Good Compression, so i see no need to remove the head.

I look forward to your response.

Yes, your interior is in much better shape than mine was,. I had rats on the inside and peacocks living above my car. Check out my photos of when I pulled my car out of the barn. I wish it was in a garage as yours was.

Ok, this took a little longer than i thought. We did move back to Chattanooga, TN. Just had the 2nd surgery on my knee and i should be back to work on the Packard. Look for more photos and updates. I will be working on the frame and running gear this summer. I look forward to all the assistance this forum brings.

Generator for my 1941 120

Here are a few photos of the generator that came with my Packard when I bought it. The belt did not fit correctly, and the prior owners had inserted a wedge shaped piece of wood between the block and the Generator to keep the belt tight. I do not think this is the correct generator, the front mounting hole is offset from the bottom, making it impossible to tighten up the belt. The numbers off of it suggest a late forties Chrysler.
Any suggestions on where to purchase a new generator with this incorrect core?

Good looking car. I like the blackwalls. Alot of the old photos from the 40's show the jr cars with blackwalls.
