Re: fender mounted rear view mirrors

Owen,
Thanks for the comeback. I would greatly appreciate it. I have noticed that there is a diffence between the senior and junior mirrors. While they appear the same at a quick glace, the seniors are a little fancier in the shroud that surrounds the mirror. I have checked this out on cars with the original mirrors and it seems the case.

I am trying to find the right placement of rear view mirrors on my 55 clipper. I know there was a template used for this. If someone could just give the measurements from the hood fender seam to the screw heads and from the front fender door joint to screw head, this may help.
Gracious

The only gold trim on the 55 Clipper is the helms wheel on the dashboard.

Thanks for all the information. I will rebuild the carbs myself as suggested. I will not be installing them unless a show is envolved or sell the car. I presently have a single carb installed and am quite happy with it that way. Any suggestions on a god carb cleaner and coating?

I recently purchased a set of 55 Caribbean Carbs. They need rebuilding. Does anyone have any idea who I can trust this to and ball park figure as to what I should expect to pay for a really good job? It appears that they are in fairly good shape with no missing parts.

Does the car have overdrive? If so, suspect the od relay.

Resonators

Several years ago, Steve Williams told me that exhaust resonators came on the 56 Caribbeans and not the 55s.
This conversation came about because I had just installed a new exhaust system on my 55 and it came with the resonators.
Does anyone have any comment?

I have had several 55 Packards with od and power brakes. Everyone had the clutch pedal higher than the brake. I know for a fact that one was a factory original. Family car all its life. It seems the low clutch pedal would not allow much room for adjustment.

I had to convert my 55 400 from positive ground to negative when I installed a solid state ignition in it. All I had to do was change the battery cables around putting the negative cable to ground and the positive to to the starter motor. I switched the leads on the ammeter and fuel gauge around and polarized the generator and regulator. Everything worked fine and less than an hours work. No problem with suspension and no problem with radio.

Turopackman,
Thanks for the information on the 56 steering gear. The thought entered my mind before. The problem is, it would almost be as much of a problem to replace as the 55. Would still have to remove the steering column etc to get the shaft out. The plus to the 56 is that I could remove the shaft without having to remove the gearbox.
