Thanks Pgh Ultramatic, but I'm not convinced (yet, anyway) that this is the same long-reach cap. It doesn't seem to mention the reach of the cap. These 51-54 need longer height caps due to the taller fill tube.

This is the cap I obtained:

Specifically search on Ebay for "13 lb Long Reach Radiator Cap / Pressure Cap / Expansion Tank Cap" and it will come up.

As an update, I was able to locate a 13 lb cap for my 1953 that is the correct depth to reach the bottom of the filler neck. Here are some comments on that cap:
- Sold by the U.K. by complete-radiator-supplies, on U.S. eBay, under the title 13 lb Long Reach Radiator Cap / Pressure Cap / Expansion Tank Cap.
- Stainless Steel
- Shipping is expensive, more than the price for the cap. But it works.
- It does say "made in England" in small letters, if that's an issue for your restoration.
- I did have to file the cap tangs just a tiny bit to get it to install easier.
- Installed, it is rotated 90 degrees from what is shown in Packard service photos, at least on my car anyway.

Yes, the Velvac catalog only has 4 and 7 lb at 1” depth.

I am also looking for a 12 or 13 lb pressure cap. My 1953 has a 1" deep filler neck, not the standard 3/4" that most other vehicle brands seem to have used.
Does anyone have a 13 lb. cap cross-reference number that will work for this 1" depth? (Or a good used cap to sell?)
I can find 13 lb/3/4" depth caps, and 7 lb/1" depth caps, but not the 13 lb/1" variety.
I believe the numbers listed in the Packard cross-reference list are for 3/4" depth. (Did Packard use both 3/4" and 1" deep radiator necks from 51-54? Both radiators I have are 1" deep).
Many thanks for the assistance, as always.

1953 Packard Ultramatic wiring - correct routing?

wgb1956
Hello, does anyone know the correct routing for the wiring harness branch (2 wires) that goes back from the firewall area to the Ultramatic neutral start safety switch on a '53? Mine has been clotheslined from the TOC lines with zip ties, so is for sure not right. Does it go rearward along the top of the frame and then jump over to the switch? Are there any retainers or clips involved? Thanks in advance for any guidance, as I want to rewire it correctly.

Hi, about to install new valve guides from Max Merritt in a 327 hydraulic valve lifter engine. Other than installing to correct height (I have the correct Packard dealer tool), is anything else required? Do they need to be reamed for any reason? All help is appreciated, thank you!
