34 1104 muffler and tailpipe brackets-hangers
#1

Darrell
Does anyone have photos of the muffler and tailpipe hangers on the 34 Super 8.
It appears that I have an original bracket attached to the frame, that then would have a hanger or strap for the muffler. In my case, a strap around the muffler has been rigged and bolted to the bracket, with a short piece of rubber to isolate.
The rear tailpipe bracket attached to the frame is original I assume. A tab has been welded to the tailpipe, and is simply bolted to the bracket. This doesn't allow for any isolation nor thermal expansion. The tailpipe is very close to the gas tank, and barely fits between the tank and the spring shackle. I wonder if the tailpipe should hang lower, to better clear the tank and spring, and allow for some thermal expansion.
I do not see any drawings in the parts book.

34 1104 differential seals and bearings
#2

Darrell
I am in need of replacing, at a minimum, the pinion seal on my 34 Su8 1104. But, a bad seal may be due to a bad pinion bearing. And that can lead to, "while I'm in there..." replacing axle seals and bearings and carrier gasket, pinion gasket, and....
I have the Parts Manual with some good diagrams and parts number lists. Has anyone already gone through replacement of these seals, gaskets, bearings on one of these and have a list of modern part numbers that can be sourced at Bearings, Inc and other suppliers? And a source for gaskets for the carrier and any other gaskets.
In the old days, I could take my old bearings or seals to the helpful guy at the counter at Bearings, Inc and he would go straight to the shelves and bring back what I needed, without even looking it up or asking me what car its for.

Also, does anyone have a good shop manual procedure for rebuilding and adjusting lash, etc on the differential? It looks like this carrier uses shims to adjust clearances. But, rebuilding a rear end is not in my list of experience.

Shock link bushings - 34 1104

Darrell
I am looking at replacing the rubber bushings on my 34 Super 8. I see that Steele offers new rubber bushings. The dimensions do not seem to match what I see with my original links. The thru-bolt on my shock links has a tapered section that fits into the taper in the shock arm. It appears that my rubber bushings inside diameter is larger that the 5/8" shown on the Steele bushings. I am reluctant to disassemble my links, as they are still serviceable, until I can confirm that the new Steele bushings will indeed work. Does anyone have experience with changing these rubber bushings, with some photos?

Resurrecting an old thread...
I am in need of a new bendix spring for my 33 Super Eight, and perhaps some additional repair/rebuild while the starter is out.
Can someone confirm a source and part number for a replacement spring.
Plus, any shop manual or other reference for disassembly/repair/adjustment/assembly/installation would be helpful.
Thanks!

The 1003 is now running and driving. Some cleaning was done to the fuel system, a compression check (good), fresh oil, new battery, ignition check, ... Once the years of Marvel Mystery Oil additions to the cylinders burned away, the engine ran well, with good oil pressure, no smoke, ran cool. Driven for a few miles.
The photo gallery has been updated with photos of coompression check, and videos of the engine running, and videos of the solid sound of the closing doors.
Open to offers. I want someone to enjoy this car.

Mostly original Super Eight sedan 136"WB. An original rear spare car, with a well installed in the left fender in its life. The car is solid and doors open/close with classic fit and sound. Rear seat and doors interior is good original and some of front is original. The car has not been driven for several years, but ran and drove well before being stored. The engine has been recently run with a temporary gas tank. New wire harness. Good for restoration or my intent to condition mechanicals and drive it. Some new/spare parts. replacement wiper blades

Darrell
Does anyone have a source for replacement blades with the attachment to the wiper arms as in the pictures, for my 34 1104? I am more familiar with the "hook" design blade attachments. I am unsure if these blades and arms are original.
I know they will never be very effective (I will rely on application of RainX)

Stay tuned... I'm on a path to a tidy solution. (with two options). If successful, I should be able to supply a number of filter replacements.
and, brazing is not involved. Tried that, not good.
