Side note, is the engine oil pan drain plug the same size and use the same size crush washer as the 2x plugs for the rear differential?

Just a heads up. As I had no patience to wait. Our venerable vendor actually sent me 1.00 OD x 0.625 ID copper crush washers under part #433248. For $5.00 a washer. Today I received my copper crush washers from fittings.space/ dynapex. They were 7/8 OD x 0.625 ID and 0.75 cents a washer. These were an exact match to what I removed. Like Potato said, I hope this does not make a difference as long as torqued properly. The bolts do have blue monster PTFE seal tape on them. I drove in multiple parades this weekend. So far no leaks. Fingers crossed.

Thanks again everyone for your comments. All is greatly appreciated. Mission accomplished. I replaced with 2 quarts of Royal Purple 85W-140 and 4oz of Bardahl gear seal. Interesting note...the copper crush washers I removed were smaller than the ones I received from M_x. I used the correct part# from M_x for what is supposed to be 7/8 OD x 5/8 ID copper crush washers. All in all pretty easy. The smelly dark gear oil I removed looked a little dubious. Thoughts are welcome.

Update. Change of plans.....with 93 octane gas nearly $5 a gallon and a bag of groceries at +\- $150.....I think we will all agree that the $3200 quote I received for my 1954 translucent purple steering wheel is a little egregious? Maybe someone was having a go at me? Plans are cancelled. I do have $50 53 black #426320 wheel though that I was going to send as a template...now hanging on the garage wall.....oh well...

Thank you again everyone. My bad on the plumbers teflon tape, I meant Blue Monster PTFE resin thread seal tape. But I will go with new copper crush 5/8" ID x 7/8" OD copper crush washers. Stay tuned.

Hi KP, quick question, my 54 steering wheel is part #465223 (white). I have come across a 53 steering wheel part #426320 (black) with no chrome. Should this suffice?

Thank you everyone for your responses. To start, I plan on simply draining the gear oil and replacing with 2 quarts of Royal Purple Maxgear 85W-140 gear oil and 4 oz. of Bardahl gear oil stop leak and yellow teflon tape. The service manual mentions 4.25 pints of gear oil which translates to 2.125 quarts. The service manual also mentions checking the level but with what and how do you know? I was toying with MOPAR friction modifier as well. The fill hole and drain hole are pretty clear but what is the plug (red) in the upper left for? Thoughts are welcome.

Next project. As I was underneath my car admiring my new gas tank, which unfortunately appears to have some scrapes and scratches I was buffing out, I noticed how sad my rear end differential was looking. It most probably has not been attended to in the last 24 years. Any processes, protocols and procedures would be helpful regrading cleaning this up with new gaskets, seals and modern synthetic DOT fluid. Keep in mind the car does have a GM 700R4 transmission. Thoughts are welcome.
Regards, TC

Turns out the new strap bolts are metric. M10/ 17mm nylon locking nut works perfect. The gauge appears spot on now. First time since 1961.....
