Thanks for the advice guys. As you can see by my original post, I do have a 42 club sedan and I really like the fastback look. I am going to see the car next week and hopefully I can get it at a reasonable price. I don't intend on putting a fortune into the car. I have a couple restored cars and have found now that I prefer to just find old originals and get them on the road again. It takes a lot less money and I enjoy driving them just as much and I don't have to worry so much about scratches or someone leaning up against the car. Anyway, thanks again.

What's it worth?

Hello All,
I have a chance to buy a 1950 Packard Club Sedan. I haven't looked at it yet but the old guy who has it, and I trust him, says it is a rust free car originally from California. It has the straight 8 engine and overdrive. He had it running about 3 years ago. He says it's all there and untouched and has been sitting in his shed for many years. He doesn't know if the engine is original but has no reason to think it's not. I want to be fair to the guy but I just don't know what to offer him. He says he doesn't really know what it's worth. Any wisdom available,

Thanks,
Miles

I don't know for sure but the rest of the parts I bought for this car from the same guy are right. He said he had the parts from a 42 clipper 2 door that had been crashed in the 50's. He didn't have the car anymore but had lots of parts. He checked and didn't have any photos of the car anymore. My car had been re-upholstered and re-painted in the early eighties and there were no interior trim parts (spears) in the car.

I have a 1942 clipper 110 2 door. I have recently acquired a set of interior door trim (spears) for it. All the trim was missing from my car when I bought it and I don't know what it's supposed to look like when mounted. Does anyone out there have a photo or diagram showing what it's supposed to look like?
Thanks,
Miles

I am sure this has gone around before but I couldn't find it. Anyway, does anyone know where I can get the speedo for my 42 clipper repaired?
thanks,
Miles

Thanks for the help. That sounds like it should be pretty easy to take care of.

Thanks again!

Radio Mounts

I have aquired an original equipment radio to put in my 42 Clipper. Even managed to find a local vender to get it working. My problem is that there are no mounts for it under the dash. The radio has mounts on it but I don't know what the original under dash mounting features even looked like. If anyone has any info on this or maybe even has a pair of original mounts available, I would like to hear from you.

Thanks,
Miles

Although I am over 60 now, I was under 60 when I bought mine and getting it was just a fluke. I had never had one or known anyone who had. Mine was on an online auction and both my wife and I really liked the looks of it. Didn't know a thing about them but went for it anyway. Now I have become a loyal fan although I still have other cars including a 1923 Willys Knight. Come to think of it, getting the Willys Knight was kind of a fluke too. But that is a story for another day.

I just fired off an email to the technical department at Bob Drake Co to see if they have mirrors that will adjust enough to be usable. Maybe we can all get lucky. Or maybe if anyone else knows of manufacturers of mirrors they can contact them too. Wouldn't it be cool if we could get someone to actually address this common problem?

Thanks for the input guys. The problem mentioned about the drivers side mirror being usable is what I am trying to deal with. As I mentioned, I plan on pulling a small camper behind my car and it is nice to be able to see if someone is beside you before changing lanes. I have purchases a set of swan neck mirror and sent them back because there was no way I could set the passengers side to see out of it. I have been hoping that the curved neck style would allow more movement and therefore more usefulness. I suppose I will buy a set of aftermarket ones and do some experimenting with them. Fortunately, I do have some freedom regarding where I mount them on the doors.

Thanks again guys,
Miles
