i thought the same thing 3 speed but not use the o/d . im impressed with the power the 288 puts out and i dont mind shifting a little more. the o/d was engineered with 4.1 for a reason for all around usability .thank you guys for all your opinions.

53 clipper ultramatic seems to come out of direct drive with light throttle 40 to 60 mph release gas and engine slows car as if direct drive is holding apply throttle to maintain speed seems ok apply a little throttle and direct drive seems to release (increased rpms)other than that the transmission is good, i can live with it as a sunday show car but this is my everyday driver. i know pressure testing the trans is the only way to see whats going on. now the question 3 speed w O/d i have a complete car to swap the rear gears are 4.1 3 spd and 3.54 ultra can i get away not swapping the rear end and any other problems. thanks

I an using the new specs to tighten front wheel bearing, 20 lbs loosen and tighten to 4 lbs and back off to next slot on nut. this puts the bearings finger tight and tightening to the next slot seems too tight what do you guys think loose side or tight

does anyone know if the seals for the housing to carrier are standard o rings or something special. the main carrier seal is outside of the mounting studs and the book says to install seals on mounting studs or should I just use rtv sealer

im installing the carrier and the threaded stud on the hou
sing side got disturbed, appears to be a rest or support for side bearings. what is the adjust tment for that. thanks

thanks Howard that answered my question, my car is 4 dr the wiring shows front door switch and what looks like rear door switches but probably only on upper models

I'm new to Packard and have a dome light question the owners manual doesn't address.
when opening the front doors only the front interior lights come on, should the rear dome light also come on. the rear reading/dome light works with the switch on the B pillar. I have the shop manual and it shows the wiring, i'm wondering if the special dome light isn't connected to the front door switch. thanks
