!955 400- Bleeding the brakes

Hello to all. I just had my mechanic replace the master cylinder/power booster on a very nice 1955 400. Good item from Kantor, as usual. My guy is having trouble bleeding the system, says he can't get fluid from the wheel cylinders. This may be a dopey question, but is there something special we must do on these systems? Thanks MC

Good evening and thanks to all who replied. I replaced the brake light fuse and SHE WENT RIGHT TO LEVEL & IS FINE. Ten minute fix.

In the course of doing the reading on this, I came across an article by a guy who had all the suspension bushings for sale. He suggested that if they were installed that it would improve the ride- which is already pretty good-. What struck me is that my car will sometimes raise or lower itself for no apparent reason and that the new bushings would fix that.

What would you consider a reasonable price for this job and is it worth it? Thanks MC Pictures attached

Torsion level suspension

Good morning & Happy New Year to all. I have a 1955 Packard 400 about 2 years now and I understand why people love these cars. It had an excellent restoration and I am doing my best to keep it that way.

As you've probably heard many times, the only problem is the Torsion Level Suspension. It always had a mind of its own, so to speak. Often when driving the front or rear end would raise or lower for no apparent reason. But, it always returned to level.

I just had the power steering cylinder replaced and the power steering works great. The only thing is that the front end is about 18 inches too high and the rear bumper is less than 1 foot off the ground.

I have read the posts and I think working on this is beyond my limited ability. It may be beyond that of my local mechanic as well.

My question is this. Is there a way to level the car and disconnect the TL system until I can find a guy who can fix it. I am in Easton PA right on the border of PA and NJ. Please advise and thanks !

Thanks for your reply. I have no problem with spending money on the Olds pump but I am seeing that this fix will cause leaks from the rear main seal. I just spent $8 grand on work and a big part of that was the replacement of the rear main seal. I would hate to blow that out. What do you think the damage might be if that lifter let go ?

Gents I very much appreciate the speedy replies. My only other question is this ? If I run it the way it is will I damage something? Please advise & thanks

Good morning- I hope you knowledgeable guys can help me. I have a very nice 1955 400 I just got. The car was beautifully restored and the few leaks it had were fixed. I understand these engines were prone to a valve lifter noise and mine has it, especially when the car is run on the highway and is hot. When it is being driven local the lifter noise comes and goes. The engine has plenty of power, uses no oil and the drain oil is pretty clean. I tried the remedy of using a heavier, 15-40 oil and STP but it does not help. I'd like to avoid tearing down the engine. If I run it the way it is will I damage something? Please advise and thanks

Good morning all. I just bought a really nice 1955 400 and I understand why you like them. Great car, fantastic restoration. About the only question I have is about the rear fan switch on the dashboard. Was this for a rear defroster, rear heater or something else ? Please advise & thanks.
