Re: Just bought my first Packard - a 1954 Henney ambulance

Well, unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to keep it. I literally can't get in it at this point, since I'm 6'5, 300 pounds, and the seat is much too far forward. The steering wheel is pressed hard into my chest. There's a storage cabinet behind the seat, and my thought was to shorten it to allow the seat to go back further, but that is where the spare tire is housed. The further along I go, the more changes I have to make, and I just don't want to keep going down that road. I'd rather it stay intact and go to a good home. I'll find something else I can make work. At least I'll have the photos to show the coolest car I'll probably ever own.

Charging battery?

I have one of those "smart" battery chargers that is rated for 6v. Since the Packard is positive ground, I hooked the positive cable from the charger to the ground post and the negative cable from the charger to the positive post. Nothing happens. I reversed the cables, and nothing happens. Am I missing something?

What was the process for building the ambulance, and where did Henney come in?

Hello, everybody. I just purchased a 1954 Packard Clipper Henney Jr. ambulance. it's several firsts for me - My first '50s car, my first Packard, my first 6-volt car, my first ambulance.

I'm sure I'll have a myriad questions as I go along, but the ones that come to mind right now are:
1) What to do about the dismal lighting (brake and turn signals).
2) What is the round chrome switch on the left hand side of the steering column?
