Hello Don, Fortunately I had no problem with the 12 volts from a portable "jump start" box. Now starting and running nicely on the 6 volt system. Thanks again. Gene

Pgh and Don,

For the first test, plugs were installed at each cylinder except the one with the compression tester. And 2d test was with all plugs out and tester moved from cylinder to cylinder. Both tests were using the starter motor only.

The good news: This morning, for the first time in 60 years the engine started and ran, I shut down after about 3 minutes - enuf for now! New gas, new breaker setting, 12 v on starter motor, new "flat" fill valve, electric fuel pump, jumpered ignition switch - prayer.

Thank you ALL for your help.

Gene

thanks again TxGoat, Will give it a try with fresh gas. FYI: valves appear to be working - I get 90 to 100 psi with plugs out; not as good with plugs in ~60. Hoping that will improve if I can get it running. ? Gene

addendum: FYI I rebuilt the pump and replaced the hose that fell apart - I am getting gas to the carb - gas is less than a year old. Gene

Packard 110 from storage - carburetor

I am having difficulty restarting my 1941 110 packard after 50 yrs storage. I have spark and engine turns over fine; I rebuilt the carburetor with a kit but find only one needle screw adjustment (for idle) - I am used to carburetors having 2 needle adjustments (idle and load). Is there a second adjustment internal to the carburetor or are all the "load" adjustments made externally at the throttle shaft?

Thank you,
Gene

Thank you all for the quick responses. The id of the washer is too small for the water pump screws. After reading the responses I am thinking the washer and the spacers are from another project. Thanks to all. Gene.

ps Most likely the oil pan because of the clean non=rusted spacers. But could be elsewhere.
