As it looks now, I will be taking a job in New York for at least a year. The company has agreed to my salary and bennies request, so now the wait for the H.R. and Homeland Security people to do their thing before I can start begins. This is an exciting facet in my career: instead of being a floor mechanic, I will be running the maintenance program for a start up railroad. Ground floor.

The down side is I will be away from my family and away from Packarding. All the parts I wanted to put on since I have the time, will need to wait for me to return or (hopefully) my son will be up to the tasks. The Duchess will for the most part slumber under the covers until I or Alex takes her out. Good news is I get to fly home every quarter. Part of the deal.

It's not all set in concrete yet so this all may change tomorrow. If any of you with Packards who are in the Adirondacks, please drop me a line. I will be in North Creek and I may need a P Car fix every now and then to get me through.

Disk Brake on a 29?

I am a firm believer that certain modifications if done right for safety are acceptable. Living here in a very hilly area where we see long grades of 12% or more, and with the stop lights not timed for us older car drivers, and the way people drive here in general, I am considering converting our 645 to disk brake. I had a very close call in my Mustang last night and I have excellent brakes and tires. Had I been in the 29, I doubt this would even be being written. We are never going to show the Duchess at Pebble Beach anyway and the old girl is a driver but with five to seven people in a car that weighs just under five thousand pounds empty trying to stop on an 80 year old braking system is asking an awful lot of the old girl.

I would like to hear ideas from you all. Also if someone has a spare spindle for a 6th series they don't need that I can use for mock up, well that would be groovy.

Thanks in advance.

As they should be. Sunbeam hired Packard design people post WW-2 for the Talbot 90 and out of that came the 53-55 Alpine roadsters. BTW, that little Alpine has a Ford 5.0 H.O engine. It has a little more pep then the original 80- hp. inline four.

Do anyone out there have a service manual that details steering wheel and gear box removal for a 29 645?

Thanks in advance.
