so I have a 53 Clipper Deluxe Sportster coupe and a 56 Clipper Custom Constellation coupe. Should I be on this registry?

Those lifters went for $67. I'd sleep a helluva lot better at night knowing I put new ones in, for the $200 difference and all the headache of removing bad ones again.

Ozstatman, you bet. Just had to transfer the pics off my phone.

Ross, thanks for the re-assurance on the lifters. To date, I had heard from no one who had actually used the repros from kanter. Sounds like the smart money to just put them in. I think I'm going to replace that one valve, lifter, and check the rest for guide wear, lap them and run with it.

MMMMkkk, thanks. that is one crazy looking lifter. I saw that Kanters gets like $275 for the set, that isn't so terrible. BTW here's a pic of the car finally. As is, 2010. looks pretty decent still for 1953 Laquer.

Thanks, checked out the site, found the gauge.

Does anyone know how to find out if these lifters are the correct ones for my 327?

Says Packard Part# 440371 on the add.

Thanks, sent him an email already. Web site didn't work for me either.

Side note, My Dad has a 47 Clipper (I think a Super) Club Sedan. Beautiful cars!

Thanks, I'll look for that gauge. I'm not comfortable enough with flathead engines to have my own made. My block may have an H behind the number. I just quickly cleaned it this morning enough to be sure it was an L3 serial number to verify whether it was a 288 or 327.

So the 288 head was common on 327's? From the factory, or did people do that on their own? I understand it increases compression, how much I wonder.

yeah, that's kind of where I was at. I'm thinking about just replacing that valve, re-lapping them all in, and seeing if that will work.

Is it common for 288's and 327's to have hydraulic lifters? Was that like a dealer addition?
My block ID is L301055, by the serial # chart, it should be a 53 327 5 main with solid lifters. But they definately look to by Hydraulic, and my head is clearly stamped 288. I wonder if someone changed it to up the compression?

I think my next step is going to be to remove the head, intake and exhaust manifolds. Pull all the valves, check for "wobble" in the guides. New umbrella seals, re-lap the valves, replace the broken valve, and see how it runs

Just curious, but how to you adjust the valve lash on one of these? I'm used to OHV, rockers, and pushrods.
