After reading the discussion on this thread, there seems to be a sizeable number of owners that would prefer to keep these cars original with the Ultramatic or TU except for the lack of qualified rebuilders. Maybe before we lose the few that are left, we could train through videos people interested in providing this service to the next generation of Packard owners.

Kevin - Is the Max Merrit price 10% off of Steele's price?

Replacement Rubber Kits

I'm having my 55 400 repainted and want to replace all the weatherstrip and body gasket material. Kanter has a kit that I believe replaces all the rubber, gasket, and seal material on the car for about #2000. Or I can buy separate kits for various components from Steele. Has anyone had any experience with these? Can you comment on value, quality, fit? Thanks

Pulley is wobbling, so maybe the pulley or shaft is bent. I guess it could also be the bearing or worn housing although it isn't real noisy.

My power steering pump on my 55 400 needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Does anyone know of a reputable rebuilder for these, preferably in northern Ill? Anyone have any experience with units that might be available from Kanter or Max? Any help would be appreciated.

I think I'd always have to have at least one Packard. But if I could afford it, I'd love to have a Tesla S.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am heating the space for now as it will be a few degrees below 0 tonite. I can change the pump fairly easily, but I sent the carb to Daytona for rebuilding after reading an earlier thread here, so I can't run the engine to mix the antifreeze until I get it back. Daytona estimated 6 or 7 weeks, and its been about 4, so I hope to have it back as a Christmas present.

We are having the coldest Dec. in 18 years here in No. ILL. This follows a very cold Nov. Today I checked the antifreeze in my 2 Packards, and the 55 I purchased last spring is only good to about 15 degrees. The car is in a garage, but if I don't heat it I'm worried it might get colder than the antifreeze is good for. I don't want to add antifreeze as I have a bad water pump and need to change it out. If I drain all the antifreeze/water out of the radiator will it be safe? A little concerned about the water left in the block.

Delco Remy Distributor Parts

In addition to our 53 and 55 Packards, we're working on a 57 Chevy PU W/6 cylinder engine. The Chevy Shop Manual is not as detailed as the Packard Manuels so I need some help.
I need the distributor terminal bolt/screw with insulators. Not sure if this is available, but I have no idea what distributor is in the vehicle (no name plate) and no reference to the model number in the shop manual. Maybe someone here has an old Delco Applications Catalog with part numbers. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for sharing. The powerhouse was particularly impressive. I wonder when the last factory of that size was construced in this country? What a shame that we have allowed our manufacturing to be offshored. But what the heck, we sure know how to build banks.
