I typed 446527 engine into my search bar and it came up as an AMC motor. So I started googling the 55 AMC motor and found out that Packard sold Nash/AMC their engines and trans in 1955-57 and the 27 number was supposed to go into the Nash Ambassador but somehow ended up in my car which is the Packard. My car should of had the 446521 number but somehow ended up with the 27 code..My vin is stamped on my motor though so I know it came with the car.

Why I wondered if maybe they ran out of motors while my car was on the line or if they mixed it up...or they pulled it because Romney gave them trouble after Mason who was in charge of the mergers had died in October of 54 which is 2 months before the date stamped on my motor

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Mason

lol...If I was a conspiracy theorist I might think something was up with the sudden death of a man who was trying to save these cars companies and Romney coming in and destroying any chance of that happening...and then getting elected Governor afterwards too much? lol

I found out what the mysterious 446527 motor is

As before, the Statesman was on a 2.900 m wheelbase, the Ambassador on a a 3.081 m wheelbase. The Statesman was available only with a 3.2 liter 6, with 100 or 110 hp. The Ambassador was available with a 4.1 liter 6, 130 or 140 hp, and a 5.2 liter V8, an engine bought from Packard which was also used in the 1955 Packard Clipper.

http://www.planethoustonamx.com/main/amc_engine_casting_numbers.htm

so wondering now how I have a motor made for AMC with my vin number stamped on it. a mix up or Packard run out so they snatched a motor???

We Bought the car on Friday the 13th of July, 2012. We bought the car because the interior, trim and body was in great shape except for the few spots that you see in the beginning of the video. The guy we bought it from said that he had the engine in the shop and when I seen the motor I had to borrow the money from 2 people but I finally hauled it home.

The engine was locked up and had to use some diesel to break her free and had it running and driving by the first week. Drove it around the yard because we hadn't plated it and it seemed fine. changed the seals and cleaned it but didn't paint because we wanted to leave it showing some age. I came in to this page and found out all the info I needed and it turned out to be the original motor and trans. so we moved on to paint.

We did the body work and paint and had it rolling around the yard by the second week 7/31 I took the pics without the lights and trim. Once we let the paint dry and put the lights back on...we had got the insurance and plates so we were ready to take her for a test drive on the road. We pulled out and we were and then found out we had no 2nd gear.. ..so we turned her around and back home we went.

Got kinda discouraged plus had to build some cash back up. So we came back in here and started again. Took it apart and it didn't really look hard so we called Peter Fitch (? don't know if it okay to mention his name or not) ordered the parts on 9/13. Took her for her 2nd maiden flight. It was great, shifted nice, drove like a boat....so today I drove it up to the car wash and junk yard and the darn speedometer broke on us. So I am back on here about that and the brake light switch...although that one is a 10.00 fix.

sorry for the long sob story..I have been holding it in for awhile so we are at 2 months and 1 week and out of money...

This car is so clean it really needs to go to someone who can do the interior the right way....needs door/trunk seals and windows. I am willing to sell it too someone for a good deal if they fix it the right way

I bought a fuel pump for a 1955 Packard clipper yesterday from Advance auto parts for 20.00. The part I asked for was fuel pump 6866 for a Chrysler 318, earlier 70's....The arm looks different but it has the same rake and bolted right up and I drove it today.

We do plan on buying the rebuild kit in the future because the part says Made in the USA and we are partial to American made parts and keeping it original. They run 30.00

The parts ref link is amazing, These guys have done all the discovering so far and makes life easier. Truly <3 them

I just called my local NAPA dealer and tried to order the part on the Parts ref. guide and they said that

Brake light switch - All 1955-1956 SL-138 ECHLIN NAPA

is actually SL-134 :)

REALLY love this site, A lot of excellent info!!

..She loves that front seat... She usually will look over a car before she stakes her claim but this car she just hopped right in...

Thanks..still working the bugs out of her..I have named it Christine lol ..She tried to eat me yesterday while I was tightening the fuel lines, the hood springs don't work and hubby had a pole propping the hood up and I bumped it and she chomped away. My cousin had to come lift the hood off me :(
