1940-120
If I remember correctly there is an explanation of design and colors in the book by James Hollingsworth. 1940 Packard Pivotal Year.

The preliminary part has 12 different part numbers related to this issue. Rights & Lefts, different colors, hopefully I can post those at some later time.

Also in the Packard Service Letter Vol 13, No.18, has a paragraph on the last page Titled Bonnet Louver Medallion, and discusses the reason for change.

I hope this helps.

I am glad you were able to contact Hunley. You will not be disappointed. You have also provided an answer to some people concerned about if Hunley is still providing his services.

Great Job.

It came from a preliminary parts book and only had the numbers I presented.

I do not know if this helps or adds to the confusion.

The 1940 Preliminary parts list calls out a P/N of 341881 for Housing Assy, Flywheel 1800-- 01 - 1A with the Long Clutch LHD. It calls out 354630 for use with the B & B Clutch LHD .

Now the lower housing list 300173 for 1800-1-1A, 333656 W/Econo Drive for the 1800-01-1A and also 341689 for the 1803-3A-4-5-6-7-8.

Paul

Speaking from experience I have 1940-120. First I inquired if Hunley Acuff is still doing running boards. After confirming that he does I scraped them down, then had them blasted, then I had dies made to conform to the contour of the boards, where they were rusted out. Had new patches welded in. then powder coated the bottom side then off to Hunley. Next step is to fix the rust roughness then a coat of paint.

Time consuming and definitely not pocket change cost wise.

Good Luck

Has anybody here ever had a 1940 Wiper assembly rechromed? I believe that it needs to be taken apart so as not to have it permently joined.
According to what I have seen & heard there are several lengths to the assembly arm. When I get a chance I will check the 1940 Preliminary Parts list for the numbers.

Thanks

Thank you, my think process put more into it than necessary.

I appreciate all of the assistance. I will be referencing the blog many times in the future.

Another question if you can.

Does master cylinder get painted black to match the chassis or is it a cast blast finish?

Do any of the suppliers have the domed shape tie rod ends.

1940 120 Front End Tapered pins

Am having a hard time removing the tapered pins holding the king pin and the Lower control arm shaft pin.

I know they should be easier to get out than the time I am presently having getting them out.

Are there replacement pins available without getting the whole kit?

I have taken them out a long time ago and didn't have any issues. Maybe a little heat on the castings???

thank you
