No hookup issues and its still set up as a positive ground. I've never seen this before and im totally befuddled. Has anyone seen a ammeter re polarize itself? Thanks for the suggestions.

2272-9 with a ammeter reading discharge, but charging the battery

I reciently pulled the generator, starter and other driver side parts in order to clean and paint those and the block. After I reassembled all parts I started the car and noticed the amp gauge was indicating a charge in the opposite (discharge) direction. I flashed the system as I've done many times before, but to no avail. I checked the generator and it was producing between 6.3 and 7.8 volts depending on idle or higher RPM and the battery does recharge. Not sure why the ammeter is reading discharge instead of charge. Everything works as normal other than the ammeter. The ammeter no longer indicates a drain when the lights or signals are turn on. Any ideas?

Yes, this "48" number looks like the same type of marking. I'm not sure what the "55" is either..

2272-9 numbers on the block

Seeing as I'm still learning new things about Packards I am posting two pictures of numbers I found while cleaning the block (motor) on my 1949 2272-9 Super Eight Sedan. They are located on the drivers side, bottom lower back of the engine. I am assuming the one picture is showing a casting date, but I'm puzzled on the other which was just forward of the date number. Anyone have any info on these numbers?

I'm going to leave this post in case others have the same questions, but I located my answers here on PackardInfo. They are engine casting numbers. Thanks to those who provide this wealth of information.

Do you still reside in Pahrump, I also live there and have a 2272-9 and would like to trade info.
