Ross et al, thanks. I hadn't planned on replacing the timing chain as it seems very substantial so i'd be interested in your pros & cons of replacement of the chain. we've got the cam sprocket loose, just can't remove it completely due to the side tension of the chain on the crank sprocket. thanks again. gary

Next issue: We're at the point of removing the crankshaft for surfacing. Problem is the service manual merely says remove the camshaft sprocket and timing chain. unless we're missing something, the crankshaft sprocket must also come off, sliding both off at the same time, as the chain is too stiff to remove one sprocket at a time. It is not apparent how to remove the crank sprocket; it almost appears cast with the crank. Can anyone enlighten us on getting the crank out? TIA, gary

We've decided to,and have accomplished removing the engine and transmission on my `53 Pat. Next question, in looking to drain the coolant from the head and jackets before turning the engine upside down, I've found one plug off to the side and underneath the 4th expansion plug. Is there any other plug that we have missed, to finish draining the coolant?

this sounds like a question for super-HH56, but are there any specs out there for the 327 oil pump, such as end play or other. We've got the engine and trans out of the car and are going to be looking for the source of the knock. one disturbing thing we've found is the oil is damn near water thin, i believe i read that 20-W oil was originally spec'd for the car but this oil was not pretty..

Kev and Dave:
1954 Bikini Blue = Dupont BM520 (close match)
1941 Barola Blue = Dupont DM267 (close match)
1934 Shirvan Green ->close match is Camden Green GS 736. It was listed under the blacks.
No cross for Stanley Green.
There is also in the 1934-35 library a Pompeii Green : GS180
Would you guys mind putting these in the Cross Ref.?

thx, gb

I'm in the industry so I have the phone number to DuPonts Color Library. I've added the current matches to the `53 colors, with the exception of a couple (so far). For any of you with a Dupont color, I'd be happy to call them and get a reference to current material. PM me..Thanks, Gary
